About Orb:
We’re a team that cares deeply about the work, the people we do it with, and the customers we do it for. Everyone at Orb has real ownership over their work, direct access to customers, and a voice in how the company grows. We’re building the revenue design platform that helps teams automate billing, evolve pricing, and grow revenue with confidence.
Looking ahead, joining forces with Adyen expands what we can build and raises the ceiling on the problems we get to solve for customers. The challenges are uniquely interesting, and you’ll be surrounded by thoughtful, ambitious people who move fast and hold a high bar.
For San Francisco Bay Area , New York, and Amsterdam residents, we've built a hybrid work culture where we are in office 3 days/week. For remote roles, we ask you to join us in person 1x per quarter. Our values, customer centricity, minutes matter, run with it, attention to detail, and go further together are at the core of everything we do.
About the role:As the engineering manager for the Entitlements & Spend Platform team, you'll lead the engineers building the runtime layer between Orb's billing engine and the workflows customers build on top of it: alerting, spend controls, entitlement checks, and usage analytics. This is where billing state becomes something customers can act on in real time: knowing what's been consumed, what's allowed, and what should happen next, both as reactive alerts the moment a limit is crossed and as live, on-demand reads of balance and entitlement state. Because it's computed against Orb's actual pricing, credits, and commits, customers can put it directly in the critical path of their own spend and access decisions.
This is a foundational team. You'll set its technical direction, shape its roadmap alongside your product and design partners, and define the interfaces the rest of Orb builds against. The work sits squarely at the intersection of infrastructure and product: real systems engineering where correctness and latency are non-negotiable, paired with a customer-facing surface where API design and getting the primitives right matter just as much.
In this role you will:Own the success and growth of the engineers on your team — run regular 1:1s, give consistent and actionable feedback, tailor projects to each person's development, and onboard new engineers with the technical and product context they need
Hold the bar on technical decisions, reviewing architecture and design docs and critical code with an eye to long-term maintainability; proactively manage technical debt and keep defect rates low while balancing speed and quality
Advocate for developer experience and a high standard of API design across the team's surface
Drive scoping, costing, and estimation, and own the accuracy of those estimates; set clear expectations, manage cross-functional communication, and escalate risks early so the team delivers on time
Lead high-quality QA, with particular attention to the correctness and completeness this domain demands. Customers trust these numbers
Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive team culture, bringing PM into architectural discussions early so user and business implications surface before code does, and resolving the interpersonal or systemic issues that get in the team's way
Partner closely with Product and Design and contribute directly to product discovery and strategy, making sure engineering insight shapes the roadmap, and that the decisions you advocate for represent the customer's perspective, not just the system's constraints
You have 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with 2+ years as an engineering manager or tech lead manager equivalent
You have a track record of growing engineers and holding a high bar for technical excellence
You're comfortable navigating ambiguity and enjoy establishing a team's foundations: bringing clarity, structure, and execution rigor to a high-leverage, still-forming domain
You have a deep technical understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and system architecture, ideally with exposure to real-time or low-latency systems
You partner naturally with Product and Design, and you advocate for the customer's perspective, not just the technical constraints of the system

Orb Insights
What We Do
Orb is the Revenue Design platform that helps SaaS and GenAI companies design, price, and execute monetization; from contracts and usage to billing, invoicing, and reporting. It is built for Revenue Architects, the product, finance, engineering, and sales leaders who shape how revenue is created. Legacy billing systems are rigid and slow, often forcing companies into workarounds. Orb adapts to any model, from self-serve usage to complex enterprise contracts, so teams can move faster and scale without friction. Companies like Replit, Glean, and Redis rely on Orb to bill millions of users, automate enterprise contracts, and keep finance audit-ready. Backed by Mayfield, Menlo Ventures, and Greylock, Orb is building the platform that turns monetization from a bottleneck into a growth driver.
