Purpose of the Role: The Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer ensures supplier compliance with Valmet’s quality standards throughout the procurement lifecycle, including legislative, normative and project-specific requirements. They support supplier capability development, and foster cross-functional collaboration to drive continuous improvement and alignment with project and product quality goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain product quality requirements including legislative, normative, product, and project-specific requirements in collaboration with Product, Engineering, Procurement and Quality stakeholders
- Communicate quality requirements to suppliers during the procurement and delivery phases (e.g., through contracts and kick-off meetings). Review and approve supplier quality documentation both before manufacturing begins and after it is completed
- Lead supplier and strategic development project quality improvement initiatives across the Business Area product portfolios and follow corrective actions by participating root cause analysis and defect resolution
- Participate in audits and provide feedback based on quality performance with the purpose of fostering continuous improvement and development initiatives
- Promote early identification of quality risks and defects through preventive measures and quality planning through the procurement and delivery phases.
- Support the development of approved supplier lists and material specifications
- Foster strong collaboration with Project Quality Assurance, Supplier Quality Management, and external stakeholders across Global Supply and Business Areas
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of the product portfolios and supplier network.
- Highly skills in regards to machining.
- Understanding manufacturing techniques including welding, and casting, as well as familiarity with their relevant technical standards. Knowledge of NDT (non‑destructive testing) is appreciated
- Ability to support Supplier Quality strategies and development initiative implementation in cross-functional team environment to ensure consistent quality standards
- Skilled in proactive quality planning, defect analysis, and leading continuous improvement
- Proficient in managing internal or external audits, ensuring compliance with legislative, statutory, and internal standards
Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical field
- At least 3 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing, or industrial quality assurance roles
- Experience in capital projects or low-volume/high-complexity production environments preferred
- Hands-on experience with supplier audits, inspections, and qualification activities
- Exposure to project-based procurement, customer-facing quality, or field quality is a plus
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related technical field
