About the Position
As a Senior Energy Market Analyst – Trading, you will sit within Energy Exemplar’s EMEA Solutions team, acting as a key technical partner to power trading customers across the region. You will combine deep knowledge of electricity markets and fundamental energy market modelling with an understanding of trading desk workflows to help customers use PLEXOS to support commercial and trading decisions.
The role will work closely with power trading organisations, the EMEA Sales team, Solutions colleagues and Product teams. You will support customers across the full lifecycle from pre-sales demonstrations and proof-of-concept engagements through to model implementation, onboarding, optimisation and ongoing customer success.
You will be accountable for delivering high quality modelling solutions that address customer needs, translating complex market and modelling concepts into actionable insights, and identifying opportunities to improve how trading organisations use fundamental modelling in their decision-making.
This is a highly collaborative and customer facing role, with the opportunity to work with leading organisations across EMEA, contribute to thought leadership in power trading, and influence the continued development of PLEXOS for trading applications. The role can be based from Energy Exemplar’s London office or remotely within Europe, with international travel across EMEA as required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to power trading customers, developing strong relationships and understanding their commercial objectives, workflows and modelling requirements.
- Lead the design, development and delivery of fundamental energy market modelling solutions using PLEXOS and related technologies to support trading and portfolio decision-making.
- Work with customers to analyse modelling outputs, validate assumptions and data, and continuously improve models to ensure they provide relevant and actionable market insights.
- Support the full customer lifecycle, including requirements gathering, onboarding, training, troubleshooting, model optimisation and ongoing technical support.
- Partner with the EMEA Sales team on prospective customer engagements, including technical demonstrations, proof-of-concept studies, presentations and responses to detailed functional and technical requirements.
- Use scripting, automation, APIs, CLI tools and cloud-based environments to develop efficient modelling workflows and integrate PLEXOS into customer processes.
- Collaborate with Product and Solutions teams to communicate customer needs, identify opportunities for product improvement and contribute to the development of trading-focused capabilities.
- Conduct market research and develop original analysis on emerging trends in power markets and trading, contributing to thought leadership, webinars, conferences and customer-facing content.
- Manage multiple customer engagements and priorities across EMEA, balancing delivery, stakeholder management and commercial requirements in a dynamic environment.
- Travel internationally across the EMEA region when required to support customers, sales opportunities, training and industry engagements.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- 5-7+ years of experience in energy markets, with a strong understanding of electricity market fundamentals, energy economics, power system operations and/or energy trading.
- Demonstrable experience using fundamental energy market supply and demand models, including optimisation, unit commitment or dispatch modelling, to analyse electricity markets.
- Strong understanding of power trading and electricity market dynamics, including how modelling can support price forecasting, market analysis, portfolio decisions, risk assessment and trading strategies.
- Strong Python or similar scripting skills, with experience using code to automate analytical or modelling workflows and work with data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex modelling outputs, challenge assumptions and translate analysis into clear commercial insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and rapport with both technical and commercial audiences, including traders and other senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, customer requirements and competing priorities in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
- A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, Operations Research, or a related discipline, ideally with a focus on electricity systems or energy markets.
Desired but not required
- Hands on experience with PLEXOS or another commercial energy market optimisation platform such as EPSI, BID3, Antares, SDDP or PROMOD.
- Direct experience working within or closely with a power trading desk, including exposure to day-ahead, intraday, balancing or other electricity markets.
- Experience applying fundamental modelling to cross-border flows, congestion analysis, ancillary services, capacity markets, portfolio optimisation, VaR or hedging strategies.
- Experience working with APIs, CLI tools and cloud-based computation environments, particularly where these have been used to integrate energy market models into automated trading or analytical workflows

Skills Required
