About Us:

The global energy transition is the biggest challenge and opportunity of the 21st century. Corporations, commercial entities, and suppliers (large and small) are realising the need to work towards a greener future – often by investing in renewable energy generation, adapting their electricity usage and commercial models.

At Gridcog, we’re on a mission to accelerate investment in the clean energy transition. We are a SaaS start-up of energy nerds on a mission to accelerate the energy transition by building the best project modelling software to enable our users to make intelligent energy decisions. Our software models the physical and commercial nuances of energy projects. This includes modelling renewable energy generation, flexibility and different commercial arrangements.

We were founded in the summer of 2020 in Australia, launched in the UK in 2023 and have since managed to build a highly relevant and sought-after software solution across both the GB and Australian markets. We’re now expanding into Europe with the launch of our Berlin office, and we’re looking for new team members to help us replicate this success.

Who we’re looking for:

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Senior Energy Analyst to step into the role of one of our Germany market experts. As the first member of the Berlin-based Industry Team, you will bridge the technical and commercial aspects of our business. You will work closely with our customers in Germany and Central Europe, and develop Gridcog’s relevance and success in these geographies. You will bring your expert knowledge of the German energy market, in particular when it comes to utility-scale solar and BESS projects to help drive our growth in the region.

This is a unique opportunity to be one of the first hires in our Berlin office, helping to kickstart our presence in a new region. You’ll work closely with Laura, our Central Europe Industry Lead, and Genna, our Chief Commercial Officer, in London, as well as our international product development, data science, sales and marketing teams. If you’re an energy nerd like us and keen on joining a fast paced startup please read on.

Your work as a Senior Energy Analyst will cover three main areas:

1. Technical Customer support:

  • Become a senior technical expert in the Gridcog modelling software and industry trends in Germany and Central Europe for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Onboard new clients, providing expert modelling support, and responding to complex technical queries
  • Take accountability for high NRR (Net Revenue Retention) in Central Europe and minimise Churn, e.g., by proactively monitoring client modelling to ensure optimal utilisation of their subscription
  • Own our Library of energy market prices, network tariffs, and project costing assumptions for Central Europe

2. Sales and Marketing:

  • Position yourself and Gridcog as a thought-leader in Central Europe by writing blogs and producing video content to share Gridcog's industry insights
  • Support revenue growth by conducting product demos with sales prospects and handling complex product/energy questions from potential clients
  • Be an ambassador for the company at industry events; you’re also open to speaking at events or on podcasts

3. Product

  • Champion the Central European market internally ensuring that key features our clients require are shared with the wider Product team
  • Support with continual product development including testing new features and making sure they represent customer requirements

To be successful in this role you will (have):

  • A passionate interest in the energy transition, with a growth mindset, and strong intrinsic motivation
  • 3-10 years professional experience in the German power sector (this could be in relation to renewable project development, energy/power market and regulation analysis, consulting or electricity trading)
  • Strong knowledge of German energy markets and rules – you will understand different regulations to adhere to, commercial options available and challenges for clean energy projects like solar PV and battery storage in Germany
  • A collaborative attitude, contributing positively to the energy and culture of our new Berlin office, and excited to engage with a global team of Gridcoggers
  • Engaging and persuasive writing and dynamic presentation style – you will be motivated by the opportunity to present at conferences, engage in industry discussions, and build your personal brand
  • Exceptional communication skills with a strong sense of customer empathy
  • Very strong analytical skills – you will not shy away from diving into large Excel files
  • Native or bilingual German language abilities and business proficiency in English
  • Be local to Berlin, happy travelling into the office at least 3 days a week

We’d also love it if you have:

  • Familiarity with one or more energy markets outside of Germany
  • Practical hands-on experience in energy project modelling
  • Some prior hands-on experience in tools such as Excel, Tableau, Python, or R
  • Fluency in another European language - in particular Spanish, Italian or French

Application:

Alongside your CV please attach the following:

  • A cover letter explaining why you think you’d be a great addition to our team
  • A brief description of the one regulation you believe is most important for utility-scale renewable energy and/or battery storage projects in Germany right now, and why (max. 250 words)

Benefits:

  • Competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and skills
  • Opportunity to be a founding member of a new Berlin-based team
  • Periodic travel to London to collaborate with our UK team
  • Join a diverse start-up in the energy space and be part of a high-performing team that values innovation and creative problem-solving
  • We will help build your personal profile in the energy sector via sharing your insights and contributions on our company LinkedIn page
  • Contribute to the decarbonisation of the world's energy system
  • Support for ongoing professional and personal development
  • An annual all company retreat to link up with our Australian colleagues – this year we went to Bintan, Indonesia and next year we’re going to Bali

Diversity and Inclusion:

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team at Gridcog. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, as we believe an inclusive environment and diversity of perspective leads to innovation and success.
