Job Purpose:
Our Senior Counsel is primarily responsible for providing day-to-day support for Veritiv's business segments of packaging, facility supplies and print, with respect to contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, and customer and supplier relations. The ideal candidate will be able to provide practical, business-minded advice that assists Veritiv in accomplishing its objectives while minimizing legal risk.Job Responsibilities:
● Minimum 6 years related law experience with a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.● Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
● Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex legal issues in a clear and practical manner.
● Proactive, collaborative, and able to independently manage a diverse range of matters.
● Business-oriented mindset with sound judgment and a focus on risk mitigation.
Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications:
● Provide day-to-day legal counsel to HR, business leaders, and other stakeholders on employment matters, including hiring, employee benefits, performance management, employee relations, mobility, internal investigations, terminations, independent contractor classification and wage and hour issues.
● Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries (e.g., EEOC, FEPA, DOL, OSHA/MSHA, and other state/local agencies).
● Draft and revise employment-related agreements, templates, policies, and procedures, such as restrictive covenant agreements, consulting agreements, severance agreements, and handbooks.
● Monitor legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities and provide strategic advice to business partners regarding the same.
● Manage outside counsel as necessary, including setting case strategies, instituting litigation holds, responding to discovery requests, and reviewing budgets & invoices.
● Serve as legal advisor on strategic workforce planning initiatives, including reductions in force (RIFs), reorganizations, and global restructurings, ensuring compliance with applicable labor laws and risk mitigation best practices.
● Lead or support internal investigations involving employee complaints, whistleblower claims, or workplace misconduct.
● Support management of Corporate Compliance Program including review of corporate polices and compliance training.
● Support employment issues related to serial acquisition strategyDemonstrated expertise in U.S. employment law; experience with Mexico employment law strongly preferred.
● Experience advising HR and business leaders in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Work Experience:
● 1-3 years of related experience of successful supervisory/management experience required to motivate and develop direct reports, as well as size up new talent.● 3-5 years of related job experience.● Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.● Excellent verbal, written, people, and diplomacy skills are required.● Experienced in providing leadership to others regarding work related systems, processes, and challenges.● Experience of interpreting strategy and policy in order to set and deliver objectives.● Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short/medium timescales within the overall policy framework.● Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.● Strong customer service skills (friendly, courteous and helpful).● Strong planning and organization skills are required.Education:
