What you will do:
Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Controls Systems Engineer to drive the design and development of control system software for industrial refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
You will join a team delivering advanced controls for chillers, air handlers, and smart building products that optimize cooling/heating performance and energy costs. You’ll have access to state-of-the-art testing facilities and the opportunity to contribute to leading cooling solutions that advance decarbonization, data center efficiency, AI-enabled manufacturing, and sustainability.
How you will do it:
Work as part of a rapidly growing team to tackle new control needs in decarbonization and data center cooling.
Design, implement, test, and support control software for chillers and air handling units used in data centers, large facilities, and industrial applications.
Develop reliable, maintainable, and testable code in MATLAB/Simulink; apply model-based design practices for embedded systems.
Apply control theory and engineering principles (modeling, simulation, statistics, data acquisition) to create robust, efficient controllers.
Drive data-driven modeling and machine learning to analyze test data and develop plant models for challenging systems.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to capture system-wide software requirements and drive the development of new chiller and HVAC products.
What we look for:
Required
BS in Software, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline; MS preferred.
6+ years of controls development experience, including at least 3 years of Model-Based Design using MATLAB/Simulink.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience producing software requirements and specifications.
Proven ability to work effectively in a team and support fast-paced product delivery.
Experience with system identification, modeling, and data analysis is highly desirable.
Advanced proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink; experience applying MBSD in embedded systems and driving automation, optimization, and toolchain improvements.
Proficiency reading embedded code in C/C++ and scripting in Python/MATLAB.
Willingness to travel up to 5% as required to support projects and customers.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $95,000 - $120,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
