Job Description:

Shape the future of connected and software-defined systems

Are you passionate about embedded software, Ethernet technologies, and creating elegant solutions to complex technical challenges?

At Microchip Denmark, you will join our API team and help define the software interfaces that power advanced Ethernet switch and PHY products for the automotive and industrial markets. You will work at the intersection of low-level embedded development, networking, functional safety, and developer experience—building robust, reusable APIs that enable customers to get the most from our silicon.

We embrace modern software-development practices and make active use of AI-assisted engineering tools, including Claude Code, to improve productivity, explore solutions, automate repetitive tasks, and support high-quality development. You will have the opportunity to help shape how these tools are used responsibly in a regulated embedded-software environment.

Your role

As an Embedded Software Developer, you will design, develop, and maintain OS-agnostic C APIs for Ethernet PHYs and switches. Your work will help enable key digital features used in next-generation automotive and industrial systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain clean, intuitive, and extensible C APIs for Ethernet PHYs and switches.

  • Work with advanced digital features, including:

    • Auto-negotiation

    • Quality of Service (QoS)

    • IEEE 1588/PTP time-stamping

    • MACsec security

    • Traffic shaping and policing

  • Ensure API compatibility, maintainability, and long-term backward compatibility.

  • Contribute to automated test infrastructure and API validation strategies.

  • Develop robust, readable, and MISRA-compliant C code.

  • Work according to ASPICE, automotive quality processes, and applicable safety standards.

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in chip design, systems engineering, networking, validation, and product development.

  • Use modern development tools—including AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code—to improve code quality, documentation, testing, and engineering efficiency.

  • Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and continuous improvements to development processes.

Requirements/Qualifications:

What you bring

  • Strong proficiency in C and embedded software development.

  • Experience developing software for embedded systems, preferably in networking or communications.

  • Experience working in regulated environments with demanding safety, quality, or reliability requirements.

  • A structured and analytical approach to solving complex technical problems.

  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team.

  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

  • A relevant technical education and typically five or more years of applicable experience.

Valuable additional experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:

  • Ethernet switch SoCs and PHYs.

  • IEEE 802.1Q and Layer 2 forwarding concepts.

  • QoS, TSN, or time-sensitive networking standards.

  • MISRA, ASPICE, ISO 26262, IEC 62443, or other software and functional-safety standards.

  • Git, CMake, Ruby, or related development and automation tools.

  • Linux development in user space or kernel space.

  • API design, automated testing, continuous integration, or software tooling.

  • Standardization bodies, industry consortia, or Ethernet-related working groups.

  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools, with a thoughtful approach to code review, security, intellectual property, and verification.

What we offer

  • A highly influential role in a team developing leading-edge Ethernet technologies.

  • The opportunity to work on software that supports the future of connected vehicles and industrial systems.

  • Collaboration with experts across chip design, embedded software, networking, standards, and product development.

  • A supportive environment where your ideas can influence both products and engineering practices.

  • Career development opportunities along both technical and managerial paths.

  • Exposure to international projects and opportunities for travel.

  • A friendly, informal, and inclusive workplace with meals and snacks provided.

  • Competitive compensation and benefits, including pension, healthcare, and stock options.

Join us

If you want to work on challenging embedded-software problems, contribute to technologies that matter, and help build the next generation of Ethernet solutions, we would love to hear from you.

Bring your expertise, curiosity, and passion for quality—and help us connect the future.
