Dioxycle is seeking a hands-on Senior Electrochemist to join our Menlo Park-based electrochemical R&D team. You will develop and test novel, high-impact electrolyzers and demonstrate state-of-the-art performance metrics across multiple product streams. Your role is instrumental in transforming identified market opportunities into world-class electrolyzers that economically produce clean chemicals.
To thrive in this role, you should be a hands-on scientist with a strong understanding of electrochemical kinetics and transport. Ideal candidates can design experimental campaigns that deliver clear answers to key research questions, and can equally approach problems from fundamentals or simple models to guide research direction. If you are comfortable questioning hypotheses and proposing alternative explanations grounded in fundamentals, you will be a great fit for the team.
Abilities and expertise we are looking for
- PhD in electrochemistry and/or equivalent industry experience
- Expertise in electrochemical testing including EIS, Tafel analysis, cyclic voltammetry techniques, and related techniques
- Experience developing electrochemical kinetics or transport models is preferred, but applicants without this experience are still encouraged to apply
- Fluency in reading and digesting literature, and translating findings into relevant tests
- Strong project management skills: planning, anticipating blockers and removing them before they materialize, and delivering objectives on time
- Comfortable dealing with international and diverse teams
- Hypothesis driven: you rapidly test hypotheses, don't get attached when one is proven wrong, and quickly move on to the next
- CAD experience designing electrolyzer hardware
- Experience troubleshooting instrumentation or electromechanical hardware
- Experience with electrodialysis, salt splitters, or other acid/base generating cells is a plus
Mindset we are looking for
- Exemplary work ethic and self-driven attitude: you get things done fast and to a high standard and you don't drop the ball
- "Street-smart": you don't take no for an answer and will figure out a way to solve anything with the means available
- Commitment to the mission and ambition and to creating a kind, high-performance and fun atmosphere at work (100% on-site role)
- Passion for innovation and problem-solving attitude
- Dedication to investing time and effort for the betterment of the team
- Going the extra 20% that makes a good deliverable into an outstanding deliverable
- Humble, low-ego and curious
What we have to offer
- Unique journey: We are an early-stage company with a world-class team and a flat structure.
- Impact: We are building a product that will reshape century-old industrial processes to build a better, more sustainable and resilient world
- People-first: We love our people. We are excited to see one another every morning when coming to work. We choose people and they choose us to share a similar excitement.
- Feedback over ego: We are self-improving whilst helping others grow. We are no-ego doers and we are all responsible for shaping the company.
- International team: We are an international team made up of over 17 nationalities, and hopefully many more soon!
- Fun: We constantly strive to cultivate a great work atmosphere and organize regular team events.
- Competitive compensation packages
- Generous Employee Stock Ownership plans
- Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Ergonomic work stations & state-of-the-art equipment
Our process
- 2 x 30 minute intro call with the team to understand your career expectations, and answer your questions
- 60-minute technical video call with a presentation about yourself followed by a brief case study and technical questions, with Josh (Lead Electrochemist)
- Cofounder interview with David (Co-founder & CTO)
- Onsite interview with opportunity to see the lab & have lunch with the team!
- A series of reference calls with provided contacts
Skills Required
- PhD in electrochemistry or equivalent industry experience
- Expertise in electrochemical testing (EIS, Tafel analysis, cyclic voltammetry)
- Hands-on experimental work and data analysis to improve electrolyzer efficiency
- Fluency in reading scientific literature and translating findings into tests
- Strong project management skills: planning, anticipating and removing blockers, delivering on time
- Comfortable collaborating with international and diverse teams
- Hypothesis-driven approach: rapid testing and iteration
- 100% on-site work in Menlo Park
- Experience developing electrochemical kinetics or transport models
- CAD experience designing electrolyzer hardware
- Experience troubleshooting instrumentation or electromechanical hardware
- Experience with electrodialysis, salt splitters, or acid/base generating cells
What We Do
Dioxycle is a French-American technology startup that develops breakthrough electrochemical electrolysis technology to recycle industrial carbon emissions into sustainable chemicals, most notably ethylene. By replacing legacy fossil fuel-based crackers with a proprietary carbon electrolyzer powered by renewable electricity, the company aims to decarbonize heavy industry. This process has the potential to abate up to 800 million tonnes of CO2 annually, representing 1-2% of global emissions.
