Using your electrochemistry expertise, in a multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate with external and internal partners to push the frontiers of electrochemistry in the development of exciting state-of-the-art technology.
Based at our Headquarters in San Diego we require a Sr. Scientist to join our Advanced Science department as an Electrochemistry expert in a permanent role.
As part of the Material and Applied Surface Science group, you will play an integral role in developing new sequencing technologies and related applications. As the company moves fast so does the technology we use, the candidate will have to be adaptable to a wide range of techniques and methods used in life-sciences.
Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will design, execute and interpret experiments, utilizing an understanding of best practice electrochemistry methods.
- Effectively work within multidisciplinary and international teams and routinely interact with synthetic chemists, protein chemists, bioinformatics scientists, and engineers to solve problems and devise experimental plans.
- Innovate and devise creative solutions to electrochemical problems.
- Participate in collaborative research and analyze large complex data sets
- Be both a strong individual contributor as well as a collaborative team member
Keep detailed lab notebooks, prepare reports, updates, and summaries for managers and team. Write technical reports and prepare presentations for cross functional and cross-site technical teams.
Requirements
- Expertise in electrochemistry and electrochemical techniques pertaining to biodetectors.
- Experience in method development of stability of the electrode system using electrochemical, analytical and surface analysis tools.
- Experience in electrochemistry in constricted volume.
- Experience in micro/nano-fabrication of electrodes will be a plus.
- Experienced use of data and risks to formulate clear decision criteria to influence technical direction at a project level
- Experience with a wide range standard analytical techniques and surface characterization techniques.
- Understanding of microfluidics, fluorescence based assays, and fundamentals of DNA (bio)chemistry is a plus
Education and Experience
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
- Ph.D. in Electrochemistry, Chemistry or Material Science with minimal experience (0-1 years)

The estimated base salary range for the Sr. Scientist - Electrochemist role based in the United States of America is: $98,400 - $147,600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long‑term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
