Industrial Scientific’s product development team includes skilled engineers, designers and technicians in the disciplines of electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering.  Third-party design partners are used (both locally and abroad) to augment our in-house team or to provide specific expertise. For the most part, we build what we design – often in our modern manufacturing factory right here in Western Pennsylvania.

 

We design and develop a wide variety of world-class gas detection instruments, sensors, accessories and infrastructure for worker connectivity and remote management. Our designs include the latest mixed-signal embedded computing technology, mechanical packaging, miniaturization, and compelling user-interfaces.  We partner with a dedicated, in-house application software team providing feature-rich web-based applications that help our customers keep their workers safe. 

 

A Senior Electrical Engineer is a skilled engineering professional who designs large-scale electrical engineering projects. This person will often serve as the Lead Electrical Engineer in the ISC Stage-Gate Product Development Process.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the detailed electrical design throughout the Product Development life-cycle. This position may occasionally be involved in Enhancement & Sustaining projects for ISC legacy products. This position is expected to work closely with various cross-functional groups to fully assure a properly designed product from concept to production. 

 

The duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing analog and digital hardware to receive agency approvals (UL, CSA, ATEX, IEC, MSHA, etc.)
  • Define and execute system level specifications and requirements
  • Establishing strategic direction of electrical designs
  • Developing technical design documentation
  • Troubleshooting of new and legacy designs
  • Follow, enforce and mature the corporate engineering processes
  • Develop and present materials for design reviews and champion design for manufacturability, reliability and serviceability
  • Designing legacy product upgrades
  • Training in the technical use and servicing of new designs
  • Collaborative participation in cross-functional product development teams
  • Act as central liaison with quality assurance during product testing

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSEE from an accredited engineering college or university
  • Minimum 5 years experience in circuit design field
  • Proven success with low level analog circuit design
  • Proven success with digital hardware design with micro-controllers
  • Ability to develop schematics and layout in Altium
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team while also meeting individual responsibilities

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MSEE from an accredited engineering college or university
  • 10 years experience in circuit design field
  • Intrinsic safety design
  • RF design and/or wireless technology integration
  • Battery technologies
  • Embedded programming
  • Spice circuit simulation and signal integrity
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety-critical embedded system design
  • Project management

 

Soft Skills:

  • Able to work effectively in a formal product development team environment
  • Able to exercise independent, sound judgment and decision making
  • Able to commit to and work under deadlines
  • Demonstrated understanding of Stage-Gate development process
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Manage third party on and off-shore development teams when needed

Bonus or Equity
This position is also eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.

Pay Range
The salary range for this position (in local currency) is 65,100.00 - 120,900.00
