You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

JOB SUMMARY

We're looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at Apptronik, focusing on continuous improvement for our Apollo humanoid robot platform. In this role, you'll be responsible for driving design, process, and performance improvements across the entire robotic system, from individual components to the full-stack assembly. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer with a passion for robotics and a proven track record of optimizing complex electrical systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for the Apollo humanoid robot, identifying and addressing design and manufacturing bottlenecks.
  • Provide feedback and develop processes for design for manufacturing and test (DFM, DFT) for PCBAs and wiring harnesses
  • Maintain processes for design release, product lifecycle management, manufacturing team support, engineering change orders
  • Conduct root cause analysis on system failures, performance issues, and production inefficiencies to implement robust solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers, to integrate improvements seamlessly.
  • Work with supply chain to manage bills of materials (BOM), component sourcing, and component substitutions
  • Work with vendors and manufacturing leading up to design release, at design release, and during initial builds
  • Develop and implement best practices for electrical assembly, testing, and quality control.
  • Document all design changes and improvements thoroughly, ensuring clear communication and knowledge transfer.
  • Develop design documentation to support system bring-up and system field deployment
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with product lifecycle management and PLM systems such as Arena
  • Competent in CAD tools including Altium, or similar tools
  • Experience with developing and maintaining CAD design rules
  • Proven experience designing, prototyping, and debugging PCB/PCBAs as well as interfacing with manufacturing groups during release/build
  • Familiarity/experience with electronics lab tools and simulation tools (ex: LTSpice, PSpice)
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written); will be expected to develop detailed build assembly instructions and diagrams
  • Excellent problem-solving and hardware debugging skills
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing, including the use of lab equipment.
  • Travel up to 10% within US and internationally

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate
