Please review the job details below.

Vantor is seeking a Sr. Staff Software Systems Engineer to help own, evolve, and operationalize enterprise observability, monitoring, alerting, and audit-readiness capabilities across critical business and mission systems.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, systems engineering, infrastructure operations, monitoring, audit support, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate has deep experience working across engineering, infrastructure, security, information assurance, operations, and product teams to improve reliability, visibility, and operational confidence across complex enterprise environments.

This is not a ticket-driven support role. This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for driving platform standards, improving monitoring and alerting coverage, supporting operational readiness, coordinating cross-team technical execution, and ensuring critical systems are observable, supportable, and audit-ready.

What You'll Do

Observability, Monitoring & Alerting Leadership

  • Own and improve monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility patterns across critical enterprise systems.

  • Partner with MOE, TSOC, Infrastructure, Information Assurance, Security, and application teams to ensure systems are properly monitored, report meaningful status, and support operational response needs.

  • Help define standards for logging, alerting, dashboarding, system health reporting, and audit evidence collection.

  • Improve the quality, consistency, and usefulness of observability data across distributed environments.

  • Support monitoring and alerting implementations using tools such as ELK stack, Grafana, Zabbix and related technologies.

Platform Reliability & Operational Readiness

  • Drive improvements that increase platform reliability, resilience, supportability, and operational confidence.

  • Identify gaps in monitoring coverage, system ownership, alert quality, data visibility, documentation, and operational handoff.

  • Lead technical efforts to prepare infrastructure and applications for audits, operational transitions, and production readiness reviews.

  • Coordinate root cause analysis, remediation planning, and follow-through for complex reliability or monitoring issues.

  • Ensure critical services have clear ownership, useful alerts, supportable runbooks, and accurate operational status.

Systems Engineering & Automation

  • Use software engineering and scripting experience to automate repeatable operational tasks, improve system visibility, and reduce manual effort.

  • Support integrations between monitoring systems, ticketing systems, CMDBs, change management workflows, identity platforms, and operational reporting tools.

  • Help design repeatable onboarding patterns for teams, applications, infrastructure, and data sources entering shared monitoring or observability platforms.

  • Partner with infrastructure and DevOps teams on deployment, migration, decommissioning, and modernization efforts.

  • Contribute to technical design discussions involving secure infrastructure, enterprise services, data flows, monitoring agents, alert routing, and operational reporting.

Audit, Compliance & Secure Operations

  • Support audit readiness, ATO-related technical execution, system inventory validation, monitoring coverage, vulnerability remediation coordination, and evidence collection.

  • Work closely with Information Assurance, Cyber Security, Infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure critical systems meet monitoring, reporting, and operational control expectations.

  • Help translate audit, compliance, and security requirements into actionable engineering work.

  • Drive cross-team execution for complex remediation or readiness initiatives involving multiple systems, teams, and stakeholders.

Technical Leadership & Cross-Team Execution

  • Serve as a senior technical partner to engineering, infrastructure, security, operations, and product teams.

  • Lead complex, multi-team technical initiatives from discovery through delivery.

  • Provide guidance to engineers and technical teams on monitoring, alerting, operational readiness, change coordination, and supportability.

  • Build trusted relationships across the organization and quickly bring the right people together to solve urgent or ambiguous problems.

  • Influence long-term strategy for observability, operational excellence, secure systems engineering, and platform support models.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure operations, DevOps, SRE, technical program delivery, or a related technical role.

  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale production systems, infrastructure platforms, or mission-critical operational environments.

  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, alerting, observability, or operational intelligence platforms such as ELK Stack, Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, or similar tools.

  • Experience working with infrastructure, operations, cybersecurity, information assurance, or audit teams to improve system visibility, readiness, reliability, or compliance posture.

  • Strong background leading cross-functional technical initiatives involving multiple engineering, infrastructure, security, and operations stakeholders.

  • Scripting experience using Python, Bash, or similar

  • Strong troubleshooting, coordination, communication, and incident response skills.

  • Ability to translate ambiguous operational, audit, monitoring, or reliability needs into clear technical plans and executable work.

  • Experience working in secure, regulated, or compliance-sensitive environments.

  • Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and operate effectively at a senior staff level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Elastic Stack components, including Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, Logstash, Elastic Agent, or related tooling.

  • Experience improving monitoring coverage, alert quality, dashboarding, operational reporting, or audit evidence workflows.

  • Experience with ITSM, ticketing, CMDB, change management, or operational workflow systems.

  • Experience supporting ATO, audit, vulnerability remediation, secure infrastructure readiness, or government compliance efforts.

  • Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Kafka, OpenTelemetry, or modern cloud-native observability patterns.

  • Active Secret clearance or ability to support cleared programs, where required.

  • Experience operating in environments with Low Side, High Side, or segmented secure infrastructure.
