As the Sr. EHS Specialist you will be a key member of Medtronic’s Operations team located in Milwaukee, WI.

SPINE shapes spine surgery for the better; delivering procedural solutions and therapeutic biologics and partnering with other healthcare stakeholders to accelerate innovations that can improve surgical efficiencies and help create better outcomes for more patients. We are an innovative medical device manufacturer. We offer advanced products to help patients with cervical and lumbar spine instability caused by aging or trauma.

Medtronic’s Milwaukee Spine manufacturing facility specializes in innovative surfacing techniques for implantable spinal devices that differentiates Medtronic from the competition.  As a Senior EHS specialist at the Milwaukee manufacturing facility, you will support the day to day operations and growth of new product lines into the Milwaukee facility’s process offerings. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops, administers and implements environmental, health, and safety programs in accordance with governmental requirements.

  • As a member of the site leadership team, provide/promote employee awareness/training on matters of environmental, health, and safety.

  • Monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance and auditing efforts.

  • Conducts studies and prepares environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes and permit changes.

  • Reviews and analyzes environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies; collaborates with regulatory agencies to determine corrective action plans.

  • Evaluates proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public and environmental impact.

  • Interacts with regulatory bodies to resolve compliance issues; establishes permit requirements and assists in regulatory audits.

  • Represents Company in government and industry rule-making activities.

  • Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and safety hazards exist.

  • Identifies and takes corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers’ health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers’ safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspecting workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigating and/or identifying causes regarding filed incidents.

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership as the Environmental Specialist ensuring compliance and sustainability.

  • Work with the local management team to ensure compliance with all applicable permits, policies, procedures and regulations. 

  • Support the Plant Management Team and Regional/Corporate EH&S to ensure environmental concerns are identified and managed.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

  • Knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements mandated by EPA and other regulatory bodies

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of monitoring equipment such as air quality monitoring equipment and water sample collection

  • Familiarity with safety, health regulations and wellness programs.

  • Leadership experience

  • Knowledge in Environment, Health & Safety regulations

  • Experience delivering training and developing training materials

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

  • Degree in Environment, Health or Safety related field

  • Auditing experience

  • Experience developing computer-based training

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$89,600.00 - $134,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
