About the Team  

The Tech Strategy & Execution organization includes highly skilled Technical Program Managers that owns, drive and execute all critical Tech investments and strategic Tech initiatives Coupang wide. Our programs involve some of the most difficult and critical problems facing the company.  From scalability of core infrastructure to solving complex data issues to ensuring compliance with strict regulations, our team is deeply involved across the business.  Our globally distributed team works closely with each other to drive the highest priority cross functional projects set by Coupang’s leadership team. 

We are looking for an experienced and passionate TPM Sr. Director who can lead a division of the TSE team that is responsible for driving critical initiatives in partnership with the Infrastructure Platform organization.  This Platform team is responsible for Coupang's Technology Infrastructure and is on a mission to build and manage highly scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure to support the wide variety of Coupang products and services. The Platform organization consists of Cloud Compute Infrastructure, Storage Platform, Messaging & Streaming Platform, SRE and Developer Platform. We are building the next-generation infrastructure to keep up with the hypergrowth of the business for the coming years.  

About the Role  

This role will be responsible for leading the TPMs that partner with the infrastructure platform engineering org.  This includes recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and developing the strongest and most technical team of TPMs at Coupang.  Now and for the foreseeable future, a large percent of the company’s engineering roadmap is dedicated to projects and programs owned by the platform team to improve reliability and scalability of those platforms.  Thus, this position will be both challenging as well as a great opportunity to make a huge impact on the future success of the company.  This team has ownership of defining project scope and driving delivery & execution.  They will be deeply involved in cross team technical architecture and can take on a role in system design.  They will also constantly be meeting with tech customer across the business to better understand what the platform team needs to accomplish next to unlock the potential of Coupang’s engineering org.  You will be managing a team that is a catalyst that brings order to the chaos of some of the most critical programs at Coupang. 

Responsibilities  

• Partner with the VP of infrastructure engineering to plan and execute program strategy 
• Strong functional & technical system design ability 
• Able to dive deep into existing platform limitations and to consider those findings when thinking through the big problems of scalability and reliability faced by users of Coupang’s infra platform. 
• Develop solutions to improve productivity & efficiency for Coupang’s tech org 
• Strong blend of technical, business, and program management experience that enables clear and consistent communication across teams, project execution and great customer reach. 
• Own, manage and deliver multiple large scale, complex programs across organizations with ease of simplicity, taking teams along to the path of success.  
• Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail
• Strong cultural change management experience 
• The team is based in both Seoul and US West coast (Seattle and Mountain View) so you’ll need to be flexible in your working schedule to accommodate evening hours as needed 
• Some travel (Once per quarter) to either Seoul, Mountain View or other office locations will be required. 

Who we are looking for:  

• 15+ Years of experience in managing engineering or TPM teams and designing large-scale or complex technical initiatives on shared infrastructure platforms 
• 5+ Years in building and improving common platforms including AWS cloud products, CI/CD tooling (Github, Circle CI, JFrog, EKS), messaging (Kafka), and storage (Redis, Cassandra, Aurora, MySQL) 
• Experience leading and mentoring TPM’s 
• Flexible, agile and fast learner 
• Excellent cross-group collaboration, outstanding verbal and written communication 
• Someone looking to make a large impact in their next role
