Job Description
The Senior Director, FP&A – Supply Chain serves as the senior finance partner to Vertex’s Head of Global Supply Chain and their organization, providing strategic financial leadership and drives planning and performance management, influencing enterprise‑critical investment and operational decisions. This position guides strategic decision-making across supply chain planning, inventory management, logistics, trade compliance, risk management and business continuity and distribution network optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Finance Business Partnering: Lead finance business partnering for all global supply chain functions – supply chain planning, inventory management, logistics, trade compliance, risk management and business continuity and distribution network optimization – to drive financial accountability and insight across the supply network.
- Financial Planning & Forecasting: Own the supply chain financial planning processes (annual budget, periodic forecasts, and long-range plans), incorporating scenario modeling around demand variability, inventory strategies, and supply risk contingencies.
- Strategic Financial Guidance: Provide strategic financial guidance on supply network design, outsourcing decisions, and long‑term supply commitments, ensuring that operational strategies are evaluated through a financial lens with clear insights into implications, risks, and trade‑offs.
- Performance Management: Lead financial performance management for supply chain operations, including in-depth variance analysis and identification of opportunities for productivity improvements and cost efficiency. Drive transparency into total supply chain cost drivers and monitor working capital performance to optimize cash flow and inventory investment.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Procurement, Corporate FP&A, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure integrated planning and decision-making across the enterprise. Facilitate alignment between supply chain initiatives and broader company financial goals.
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing FP&A team aligned to supply chain priorities and enterprise objectives. Foster a culture of strong business partnership, analytical rigor, and continuous improvement within the team.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required; MBA preferred for advanced financial and strategic acumen.
- Experience: 12–15+ years of progressive finance experience, with significant senior-level experience supporting supply chain or operations functions. A track record of effective financial leadership in complex, global organizations is essential.
- Supply Chain Knowledge: Strong understanding of supply chain planning, inventory management principles, working capital optimization, and overall supply chain economics. Experience in managing finances for supply chain, logistics, or manufacturing operations (especially in a regulated industry) is highly valued.
- Leadership & Influence: Demonstrated executive-level communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders. Proven experience leading cross-functional initiatives and partnering with operational leaders to drive strategic outcomes.
- People Management: Proven people leadership skills, including building and developing high-performing teams. Ability to mentor and inspire finance professionals in a matrixed and fast-paced global environment.
