We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to head our diverse team of hardware engineers at Tenstorrent. As a senior leader, you will drive innovation in AI/ML hardware systems, guiding electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineers to deliver cutting-edge products that meet market demands and exceed customer expectations. With a focus on fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will oversee the full product development lifecycle, from concept to deployment, ensuring high-quality, timely delivery.

This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on technical leader with a strong background in server or complex systems hardware design, and a proven track record of mentoring and leading teams to success.

This role is hybrid, based out of Toronto, Canada. 


Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, hire and retain top talent to ensure the continued growth and success of Tenstorrent and to meet product development objectives.
  • Drive execution within the hardware engineering team to design Tenstorrent’s future products to meet marketing requirements and delight our customers.
  • Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from concept and design to development, testing, and deployment, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Drive technological innovation within the organization, staying ahead of trends in the AI/ML systems space, and identifying opportunities for new product features and enhancements.
  • Assess and address customer and factory product issues by ensuring the right expertise is prioritized to understand and root cause the issue, and resource engineering projects to resolve such issues.
  • Work closely with program management to plan projects and identify risks and mitigation strategies early to ensure the successful delivery of products.
  • Plan and manage the hardware engineering budget so the organization has the right tools and lab environment for success, while ensuring efficient use of resources.


Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or master’s in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or a related technical field.
  • 12+ years of experience in server/switch or other complex systems hardware design, with 5+ years in a management and leadership role.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical and thermal systems architecture, design, and validation (EVT/DVT).
  • Experience with high-speed PCB board design, bring up, validation and debug, including a good working knowledge of the following digital interfaces: I2C, SPI, JTAG, USB, PCIe, Ethernet (SGMII, RMII, QFSP), DDR Memory.
  • Expertise in DFX, particularly in the design advanced electro-mechanical packaging technologies as used in high end AI and ML server systems, with a demonstrated focus on manufacturability, reliability and cost.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience with design tools such as SolidWorks, and PLM systems such as Arena is highly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Experience managing directors, managers and high-level ICs, with strong aptitude for mentoring and growing team members and driving open collaboration with stakeholders.
