Job Description
The Rockefeller Center Operations (RCO) Facilities Engineering team manages all aspects of the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Alarm, Fire Protection (MEPFP), emergency power, BMS, mission-critical, and life-safety systems for the 24x7 operations in the NY, NJ, and Washington, DC campuses, encompassing approximately 2.5M square feet across 10 commercial buildings of production, technical, and office space.
The Sr. Director of Engineering will be responsible for oversight of engineering operations, including preventive and corrective maintenance, capital planning and project execution, environmental and energy performance and overall operational readiness of NBCUniversal infrastructure. Additionally, this individual should be able to balance the engineering aspects of the position while providing leadership, strategic insight and communication to peers and Sr. Executives.
These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure the integrity and operation of the facilities critical infrastructure systems which are paramount to our operational reliability, where the goal is a 99.999% on-air performance
- Operate, maintain, and implement all critical and non-critical MEPFP systems including installation and monitoring of the BMS, EPMS, and other system dashboards
- Manage a union represented staff of approximately 45 engineers and electricians providing 24/7/365 coverage for all facilities
- Review work tickets, staff productivity, budgets, and vendor relationships for compliance with KPI's
- Develop and manage both operating and capital budgets
- Implement continuous improvement programs to increase equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and extend asset life
- Track and trend critical system usage and reserve capacity, providing clients with the necessary data needed to make informed business decisions and long-term planning
- Respond and provide solutions to critical system issues. Lead incident reviews, root-cause analysis, and follow-up corrective actions for any significant or repeated system failures
- Develop Method of Procedures (MOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and required project work
- Provide technical assistance and support to the Fire Life Safety team, with the operation, upgrade, and maintenance of the fire alarm systems throughout the facilities
- Oversee all MEP projects and coordinate with the appropriate third-party engineers and contractors to review and execute such projects. Ability to perform detailed drawing review of MEP design and operational analysis as part of the design phase.
- Long-term strategic planning of capital projects, including budgeting, scoping and execution
- Collaborate and coordinate with business units on projects throughout the facility that utilize critical infrastructure systems
- Oversee and schedule off hours work, either to cover major critical systems events such as system upgrades or cutovers, or to cover major broadcast events
- Nurture relationship and maintain an open line of communication with ConEd and facility utility providers to manage/mitigate issues such as utility transients as well as coordinating utility preventative maintenance moratoriums, etc.
- Coordinate and communicate with the landlords to address building infrastructure activities and events
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in the management of critical MEPS systems
- Demonstrates integrity, personal responsibility, and initiative
- Understanding of the latest technologies and design philosophies for critical systems as well as thorough knowledge of all MEPS and BMS systems
- Understanding of construction projects and methodologies
- The ability to clearly articulate technical information to a variety of technical levels
- The ability to develop and present presentation material in a concise and effective manner
- Will require 24/7 availability to address emergencies and other unforeseen issues
- Must be willing to work in New York and, at times in our NJ and Washington, DC facilities. Some oversight, and coordination, will be required for the Broadcast Operations Center located in Centennial, Colorado
- Strong communication and presentations skills
- Must be 18 years or older
