Senior Director of Early Pipeline Global Commercial Strategy
Location: Boston, MA (3 days onsite, 2 days remote weekly)
The Senior Director of Early Pipeline Global Commercial Strategy will play a pivotal role in defining, leading, and supporting global commercial strategy initiatives for Vertex’s early pipeline. This role will partner cross-functionally to 1) identify new disease areas for Vertex to enter, 2) assess the commercial potential of external opportunities that could be licensed or acquired by Vertex, and 3) develop the commercial strategy for Vertex’s early pipeline.
This dynamic and high-profile role will play an important part in setting the strategic direction of Vertex’s pipeline. This role is based in Boston, MA and reports to the Vice-President of Early Pipeline Global Commercial Strategy.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the commercial assessments of new disease areas, targets, and platforms, working closely with Research, Clinical Development, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Business Development, Finance, and Global Value & Access Strategy

Identify new disease candidates for the Vertex Pipeline and determine if they merit inclusion in the Pipeline

Contribute to Business Development assessments and represent Commercial during due diligence of any deals

Develop strong partnerships with functional team members to support business goals

Direct development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans for early pipeline

Generate and consolidate key stakeholder insights through market research, advisory boards, etc.
Skills:

In-depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical research and development process and the pharmaceutical regulatory, reimbursement and commercial landscape

Strong strategic thinking skills with solid business acumen and the ability to look beyond the current state to identify unique future opportunities

Comfortable working with ambiguity and making clear strategic recommendations

Ability to oversee insights generation activity and apply insights to business challenges and opportunities

Strong analytical mindset with ability to simplify and synthesize complex ideas/concepts to highlight relevant opportunities and provide clear recommendations

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in life sciences. Graduate degree preferred

10+ years of experience in life sciences consulting and/or the biopharmaceutical industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in healthcare, finance, scientific research will also be considered.

Demonstrated ability to work well in teams, lead cross-functional teams, and manage initiatives that require collaboration across multiple functional areas

Strong quantitative analytical experience and skills, including financial modeling in Excel

Strong qualitative research skills including interviewing thought leaders and advisors
-
Strong communication skills and ability to develop and deliver compelling presentations to executives
-

Pay Range:
$234,000 - $351,000
Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
