We are looking for an experienced, creative, and enthusiastic person to join BILL’s Risk Strategy team. This role will report to the VP, Credit Risk Strategy and will work closely with the revenue team and executives to implement, manage and onboard customers. This role has high exposure internally in Bill and with our outside customer base. 

The Senior Director for Credit Risk Strategy plays a critical role in safeguarding the financial health of the organization by effectively managing credit risk and balancing it with business growth objectives. They must possess strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, and leadership abilities to succeed in this role.   • Responsible for developing and executing credit risk management strategies aligned with the organization's overall objectives and risk appetite at the start of the customers’ credit life cycle; onboarding of customers across a spectrum of products (short term card products to longer term working capital products).
  • Push the boundaries of traditional credit risk products and implement creative but sound strategies to expand Bill’s credit capabilities.
  • Lead the assessment of credit risk across various products, and segments while incorporating BILL level exposure at the customer level. This involves analyzing credit data, market trends, and economic indicators to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Overseeing the performance of the credit portfolio/products and implementing strategies to optimize risk-adjusted returns. This involves identifying areas of concentration risk, diversification opportunities, and portfolio optimization techniques with the objective of growth enablement.
  • Have technical and analytical acumen to design, develop and implement full end to end solutions for the customer acquisition domain – including policies, rule and ML/AI model strategies, product requirements, governance structures, documentation, and decision management.
  • Establish new payment and risk management policies, controls, and operations models in support of new and existing product offerings that enable growth and innovation.  Paramount to these solutions is the digitization of data; automated focus on all key inputs and outputs
  • Direct strategic investments in risk management systems including in-product and back-end controls, rule-based and predictive risk models, and third-party risk assessment and detection tools.
  • Manage the onboarding flow with high autonomy across the BILL product spectrum. Provide written analysis and assessment of obligors with additional documentation (bank statements, quarterly financials) when received.
  • Partner with our Analytics and Data Science organizations to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to manage risk exposure and drive operational efficiency, effectiveness, and scale. 
  • Tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor the effectiveness of credit risk strategies, and preparing regular reports and presentations for senior management on a routine basis.
  • Have excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform and influence outcomes. Be capable of working closely with and influencing senior business and risk management leaders when creating, revising or implementing workout strategies.
  • Build strong relationships and work extensively with the leadership team and partners to ensure business objectives are met while effectively managing objectives centered around controls, risk management, compliance and operational integrity.
  • Develop and lead a team of strategy data scientists; specialized in full life-cycle credit risk evaluation. Train, develop talent on the team to ensure career pathing and progression.

We’d love to chat if you have:

  • 12+ years experience and possess domain knowledge in credit risk strategy. Familiarity with risk strategies (traditional and non-traditional credit products), credit card authorization data and systems is highly valuable.
  • 8+ years experience in people leadership; driving team goals that are aligned with the broader organization.  Effective communication and coaching skills in a fast paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering or other quantitative field; Master’s Degree is a plus
  • Strong data analysis skills with knowledge of predictive modeling; understanding and application of ML models.
  • Experience in writing SQL, SAS, Python analytical languages and training the team on advanced coding techniques.
  • Leads collaborative efforts among diverse teams and departments, fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge-sharing
  • Excellent organizational skills - must possess ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks simultaneously cross-functionally.
  • Exercises significant influence on critical topics, both internally within BILL and externally within the industry

The estimated base salary range for this role is noted below for our office location in Draper, UT. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in BILL’s bonus and equity plan. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.
