Due to GEICO’s continued growth, we have an exciting senior level opportunity to join our Legal group leading the Personal Auto legal team. As Senior Director, Associate General Counsel – Personal Auto, you will report directly to the VP, Head of Legal – Business Lines. You will play a pivotal role by providing senior-level legal advice and counsel to our Personal Auto group, while also leading and developing a team of attorneys. You will collaborate with cross-functional executives to ensure legal compliance, manage regulatory and legislative risk, and drive strategic initiatives for GEICO’s largest business line. This role will be highly visible with GEICO’s senior management team as you advise on complex challenges and enable growth.

Location:

• This is a hybrid role, on-site 3 days per week at Chevy Chase, MD, New York, NY, or Beachwood, OH.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the lead legal advisor for GEICO’s Personal Auto business, guiding product development, underwriting, and claims strategies.
• Provide proactive legal counsel on state and federal insurance regulations, consumer protection laws, and compliance requirements.
• Partner with business leaders on new product innovation and enhancements while balancing risk and business objectives.
• Maintain awareness of and provide advice on key legislative and regulatory developments impacting personal auto insurance.
• Lead a team of attorneys (and collaborate with other Legal leaders) to deliver high-quality, practical legal solutions.
• Advise senior leadership and participate in strategic initiatives impacting GEICO’s growth and market positioning.
• Represent the Legal department in internal governance meetings and external regulatory discussions as needed.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 12+ years of legal experience, including at least 5 years focused on regulatory or insurance product matters (personal auto experience strongly preferred).
• Prior leadership experience managing attorneys and developing high-performing teams required.
• Strong understanding of insurance laws, compliance frameworks, and regulatory environment.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal issues for business partners.
• Proven ability to balance legal risk with business priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated industry

Annual Salary

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
