The Senior Digital Technologist uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the Digital Technology discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the Digital Technology discipline. The Senior Digital Technologist solves complex problems and uses their discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior Digital Technologist impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the Digital Technology team and other related teams and ensures that they are working within the appropriate guidelines and policies.
Job Description – VR / XR Software Developer (Industrial Applications)
We are looking for a VR/XR Software Developer to design, develop, and optimize immersive AR and VR applications for enterprise and industrial use cases such as safety training, virtual walkthroughs, equipment simulations, and digital twins.
This role focuses on building performant, stable, and scalable XR solutions that accurately represent real-world environments and workflows. You will collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and domain experts to deliver reliable, production-ready immersive applications.
XR Development Experience
- Proven experience building VR/AR/XR applications for enterprise, industrial, or simulation-based environments.
- Strong understanding of XR interaction models, spatial input, and device capabilities.
Development & Performance
- Proficiency in real-time 3D development using modern XR engines, frameworks, and programming languages.
- Experience optimizing performance, rendering, and interactions for standalone and tethered XR devices.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product management and engineering to define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals, and experience
- Frame, scope and lead the execution of a design research project
- Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to engineering
- Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks
- Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
- Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive-level stakeholders
- Conduct user research and evaluate user feedback
- Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards
- Research and evaluate emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends
Essential Qualifications and Education
- Minimum bachelor’s degree required related to Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Information Technology/Computer Technology/Management Information System
- 4+ years of relevant experience preferably in digital technologies & IT services; work experience can be waived by 2 years with education higher than the minimum degree requirement met
- An outstanding portfolio of work demonstrating strong human-centered design capabilities across a diverse range of projects
- Understand the challenges and complexities of creating a solutions suite of micro applications (E.g., Create modular UI designs that can be configured for different user workflows and customer outcomes)
- A background in product design, prototyping and testing, future visioning, and strategy development Skilled in standard design and wireframing tools, drawing and visual communication, and time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Adobe XD, Axure, Sketch, etc.)
- Ability to present your designs and sell your solutions to various stakeholders
- Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
- Understanding of user interface development tech stack and frameworks such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Well experienced with responsive design
- Good knowledge of web components and the latest UI frameworks like bootstrap, angular, etc.
