TITLE: Senior DevOps Engineer
LOCATION: New York City (hybrid) or Fully Remote in the United States
SALARY: $140,000 - $180,000 (Based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)
The Role:
As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will be a part of our internal platform team, working alongside other DevOps and Software Engineers to build and maintain the underlying AWS infrastructure and tools that power Canoe's suite of applications and services. A successful candidate for this role is someone who enjoys creating tools to empower the broader engineering team to write reliable, robust, scalable, and maintainable code. As a Senior DevOps Engineer you recognize that communicating with people is as important as writing code.
What You'll Do:

  • Take ownership of Terraform repositories to expand existing AWS infrastructure and implement new modules.
  • Design and build CI/CD pipeline enhancements using industry leading tools and development standards.
  • Operationalize our observability tools like Datadog and our alerting process to enable engineers, product, and support staff to identify and triage issues quickly.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to encourage scalable and fault-tolerant engineering practices using the tools that you've built and the shift left mindset.
  • Identify and implement cloud cost savings across all Canoe infrastructure through tagging resources, using tools like AWS Cost Explorer, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances.


What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Infrastructure Engineering or SRE.
  • Experience with AWS services such as Route 53, ELB, API Gateway, VPC, EC2, S3, RDS, ECS Fargate.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, application and infrastructure security, and site reliability engineering.
  • Experience with Git version control best practices, networking, Linux, and Bash scripting
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) frameworks like Terraform.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages (PHP, Python, etc.).
  • Understanding of the design process and SDLC as it pertains to automated testing.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch etc.
  • Strong project management and communication skills combined with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to easily adapt to changing priorities and anticipate team needs.
  • Ability to lead mission critical long term initiatives across multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to work with and improve code you did not originally write.
  • Contribute to a collaborative environment by mentoring and learning from other engineers.


Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Laravel, PHP, Python, Cypress, & Selenium.
  • Familiarity with SQL and non-relational databases like DynamoDB.
  • Familiarity with OOP, MVC, and other commonly used design patterns.
  • Prior experience with supporting engineering teams in a fast-paced product centric environment is a plus.
