A Senior Desktop Engineer is responsible for the transformation of Desktop computing environment. This highly visible senior role will be responsible for End-User Infrastructure platforms strategy, roadmap creation, and technical implementation of the IT Transformation program for End-User platform product areas. This role has an emphasis on the design of the desktop environment as well as the implementation, of FINRA’s software distribution infrastructure, product lifecycle management, and end point protection security suite. The Desktop Engineer also participates in defining hardware standards, engineering and securing the standard desktop platform, implementation of policies and procedures to ensure consistency with company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Has the ability to demonstrate breadth of knowledge across multiple areas of information technology. The candidate may be a key team member on strategic or enterprise-wide technology projects or issues.
Essential Job Functions:
- Propose, design, and implement enhancements and additions to current environment.
- Development and deployment of unattended operating system installations for workstations/desktops/laptops
- Create documentation of technical designs, defining day-to-day support and troubleshooting knowledgebase of the infrastructure.
- Serve as escalation point for resolving complicated production design problems (requires extended skill sets and extensive research)
- Designing and architectural experience implementing Intune (and/or other desktop management suites) as well as have adept experience deploying applications within a Global infrastructure.
- Solutions expected to deliver the best possible user experience, with a focus on resiliency of design, migration / upgrade strategy, and supportability.
- Drive technical debt out of the environment by keeping systems current and standard, while reducing variation
- Implementation and maintenance of company-wide desktop standards and procedures
- Create and maintain processes through automation and associated documentation
- Develop utilities to streamline standards and deployment methodologies
- Provide in-house solutions for automating, streamlining, and querying environment and desktop environment data
- Automation of engineered scripted solutions to address configuration issues or desired results.
- Advanced level troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis of the Desktop environment.
- Experience troubleshooting and enhancing desktop security and configuration management through Group Policy Objects (GPO), in-depth experience with Active Directory and GPOs/GPPs as well as the ability to create custom policies.
- Experience understanding of current industry trends and their advantages with ability to right fit into an existing environment.
- Continually perform research, evaluate and provide documented recommendations for new technologies and tools within the Information Technology field
- Implements patches and upgrades as appropriate, managing the lifecycle of these systems
- Provides performance tuning strategies and their implementation
- Assist in creating the roadmap, design, and implementation of the Desktop Infrastructure with key focus on O365 implementation, Unified Desktop implementation, DaaS, and AD consolidation
- Responsible for full End-User compute platforms product lifecycle and appropriate investment planning
- Research new Desktop and supporting system cloud technologies and prototype solutions that can be leveraged to decrease costs and increase performance and develop standards for desktop, laptop, mobility and audio/visual assets
- Execute POCs and feasibility studies to validate next-gen product concepts and technologies leveraging results to guide business and technology decisions
- Execute End-User service delivery aspects including OS and HW upgrade, desktop images buildout and software packaging that involve helping to sustain and optimize the endpoint environment to ensure that it is designed and managed effectively
Other Responsibilities:
- Able to gather and translate requirements obtained from customers into system design and deliver products that meet requirements.
- Solid project management skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with at least five (5) years of related experience, or equivalent training and/or work experience assisting end users in a help desk or desktop support environment.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware and software issues and replacing hardware on both multiple types of devices
- In depth knowledge of core applications and third party products with an emphasis on streamlining integration with the desktop.
- At least three (3) years of experience with Active Directory, MS Office suite, software utilities including those used to automate deployments and package packets, Windows and MAC Oss
- In depth knowledge of and the ability to create and implement solutions for system automation using C#, C+, .net or other similar coding languages.
- Experience installing software, patches, updates on Desktops, Laptops
- Experience in the development, testing, management and deployment of computer images (both physical and virtual)
- Ability to adapt and learn new technologies
- Customer service experience a must
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with people at all levels in the organization, both inside and outside of technology
- Strong decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow up
- Ability to perform well in a fast- paced, team environment
