Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Senior Designer.
About the team:
The Huawei Human-Machine Interaction Lab unites global researchers, engineers, and designers to redefine human technology relationships through user centered, hands on research. We focus on agentic AI and multimodal interaction (voice, touch, vision, gesture) across smartphones, wearables, and emerging devices—advancing agentic workflows, multi-agent orchestration, and intuitive human-AI interfaces. By tightly integrating sensing, algorithms, and systems, our prototype driven work ships directly to products, enabling seamless task delegation and human AI collaboration at scale.
About the job:
Lead end-to-end product experience design for AI-powered and multimodal interaction concepts, from early problem framing and user journeys to wireframes, prototypes, interaction specifications, and polished design artifacts.
Translate ambiguous research ideas, user needs, and technical capabilities into clear product scenarios, flows, and interaction models across voice, touch, vision, gesture, and agentic AI experiences.
Build and iterate prototypes in tools such as Figma, ProtoPie, Framer, Principle, or similar platforms to communicate behavior, motion, system feedback, and edge cases for intelligent products.
Collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, and product stakeholders to validate concepts, refine interaction details, document design rationale, and move promising prototypes toward product-level implementation.
The total target annual compensation (based on 2,080 hours per year) ranges from $127,000 - $225,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.
About the ideal candidate:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, UX Design, Cognitive Science, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
3+ years of hands-on product, UX, interaction, or experience design work, ideally on consumer technology, mobile, wearable, AI, voice, multimodal, or emerging-device experiences.
Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design process, systems thinking, interaction craft, visual clarity, prototyping depth, and measurable product or research impact.
Ability to make complex AI behavior understandable through clear information architecture, conversational flows, feedback patterns, error states, controls, and trust-building user experiences.
Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools such as Figma, FigJam, ProtoPie, Framer, Principle, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar; ability to create high-fidelity interaction prototypes is an asset.
Experience partnering with engineers and researchers in fast-moving, ambiguous environments; comfortable discussing feasibility, model limitations, latency, privacy, accessibility, and product tradeoffs.
Working knowledge of UX research methods such as interviews, usability testing, competitive analysis, diary studies, heuristic evaluation, or concept validation, and the judgment to apply them pragmatically.
Excellent storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to present design rationale, frame decisions, and align cross-functional teams around a coherent product experience.
Additional Information:
Huawei Canada is committed to a fair, inclusive, and accessible recruitment process. If you require accommodation during any stage of the hiring process, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.
