The job:
This position serves as a primary technical resource supporting the development of industrial control system designs, project estimates, and customer proposals. The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for developing complete and accurate project estimates through the evaluation of customer technical requirements, preparation of preliminary control system designs, review of applicable specifications, and coordination with internal Engineering, Operations, Sales, and vendor resources to produce technically sound and commercially competitive proposals.
As the Senior Design Engineer, you will focus on delivering preliminary designs and estimates while identifying innovative technical solutions and value engineering opportunities that enhance project execution and customer satisfaction. This position requires a strong working knowledge of industrial control systems, electrical design practices, panel fabrication, and automation technologies, along with the ability to effectively coordinate activities between Sales, Engineering, Operations, and customers to ensure successful transition of awarded projects from proposal development into project execution.
The Senior Design Engineer is also responsible for applying company design and estimating standards, supporting the continuous improvement of estimating tools, pricing databases, proposal templates, and design practices, while ensuring compliance with applicable industry codes, customer specifications, and Revere procedures. This position provides technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced estimators and designers and serves as a key resource for resolving technical questions during the proposal development process.

What will you do in this role:
- Develop preliminary control panel layouts/BOM, control system, electrical distribution, and equipment design in support of project estimating and proposal development.
- Review of Client Technical specifications of various system components (Electrical, Controls, Network, etc.)
- Create required engineering submittals, designs, Vendor RFQs, and documentation for Internal approvals (as required) and internal project execution.
- Provide job estimates, change order estimates, and quotations that are consistent with Revere’s profit margin standards.
- Implement and follow company standards on designs, components, Estimation Procedures (nomenclature, estimate/proposal structure, guidelines, standards, workflows) and processes. Provide feedback for improvement and changes.
- Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of UL, NEC, and NFPA requirements as they pertain to industrial control projects.
- Provide input and guidance as required for opportunity evaluation and estimating and Lead Time/Pricing for component evaluation.
- Become proficient with Revere’s Master Pricing Database structure.
- Maintain knowledge of new products and solutions for industry service area as they pertain to specification compliance, lead time, pricing, & availability.
- Provide clear, comprehensive project and bid package information to key proposal team members and vendors as required to gain input for a complete proposal.
- Work with Sales and Internal consulting engineers/Technical Leads as required to obtain required information and clarifications.
- Support customer bid/proposal activities including pre-bid meetings, conference calls, bid clarification meetings, etc. with the assigned Business Development Manager (BDM) and/or engineering resources.
- Meet stated deadlines for bid submission; be prepared to lead technical or commercial meetings to the Estimation & Sales Group regarding bid compliance when necessary.
- Prepare successful proposals for transition from Sales to Operations.
- Work in close cooperation with Commercial Team and participate in project kick-off meetings to ensure common understanding amongst project team members and establish project schedule.
- Function as a problem solver; seek to identify innovative methods and value engineering options to better serve Revere’s customers.
- Work with the operations team to gather feedback on project performance and input that data in a manner that assists future bids
- Initiate or coordinate customer follow-up for outstanding quotations if needed to assist the BDM/Sales Group.
- Maintain knowledge of the services we provide and communicate those services to existing and potential customers when engaging in conversations about Revere’s qualifications.
- Operate with a high level of autonomy to ensure departmental goals and objectives are consistently achieved.
- Mentor less experienced Design Engineers and Estimators/BDMs in industry standards, best practices, and competitive considerations.
- Foster a positive, supportive work environment that promotes collaboration, corporate unity, and high team morale.
- Leverage industry experience to continuously improve Revere's design standards, estimating methodologies, and proposal development processes. Champion practical innovation, standardization, and lessons learned to improve efficiency, quality, and long-term organizational knowledge. Promote practical, innovative solutions that enhance quality, reduce project risk, and improve the overall customer experience.
- Demonstrate sound engineering judgment and professional integrity in all customer interactions and project decisions. Recommend solutions that are technically appropriate, commercially responsible, and in the customer's best long-term interest while upholding Revere's commitment to honesty, quality, and ethical business practices.
- Provide technical guidance for preliminary power distribution system design, including low- and medium-voltage systems, switchgear, MCCs, E-House configurations, grounding, circuit/current protection, and electrical equipment applications to ensure technically sound and commercially accurate project estimates.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Ability Requirements:
- Must understand Automation and Control projects
- Familiar with Panel BOM and standards
- Must have a commercial understanding to be able to do estimates and have language capability to describe what is estimated
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Candidate must live within a commutable distance from one of our four office locations; Birmingham AL, Charlotte NC, Texarkana TX or Lakeland FL.
