Position Summary: The Senior Database Designer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex database systems that support an organization's applications and operations. This role involves working closely with stakeholders to understand their data requirements, creating efficient data models, and ensuring the database is optimized for performance and scalability. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in database design, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into appropriate data models/data relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze business requirements and translate them into database solutions.
Design and develop logical and physical data models that support business processes and applications.
Create and maintain database schemas, tables, indexes, views, and other database objects.
Design, build and maintain scalable and reliable data structure and harmonized data marts.
Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and other techniques.
Collaborate with software developers, data analysts, and other stakeholders to integrate databases with applications.
Support the design, build, and maintenance of scalable and reliable data pipelines, ETL processes, and data orchestration.
Develop and implement database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans.
Monitor and maintain database systems to ensure high availability and performance.
Stay current with emerging database technologies and best practices.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions that support business goals.
Partner with Data Management to clarify requirements, coordinate testing, and ensure data is properly governed.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert on data and data structures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in database design, development, and administration.
Proficiency in database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar.
Extensive experience in database design, development, and administration.
Deep understanding of database systems, data modeling, and data architecture.
Experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake) and ETL tools (e.g., Fivetran, Apache Airflow, MuleSoft).
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
Strong understanding of data modeling techniques and tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin, or similar).
Must have experience developing harmonized data models.
Extensive experience with SQL and database programming languages.
Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Presentation: must demonstrate clear, concise articulation of proposed actions, illustrating opportunity, alternatives, recommendation, and associated economics
Fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
Remote position with minimal travel required for quarterly meetings.
