What you’ll do
-
Work with Product and Engineering teams to understand requirements and Design scalable and highly available cloud solutions for data.

Identify and implement opportunities to optimize data storage and processing pipelines in cloud
-
Participate in design discussions with product and engineering teams, provide expertise, share and implement best practices from Database and Bigdata point of view.

Ensure high availability of databases, ensuring seamless database upgrades with none to minimum downtime.

Participate in troubleshooting and resolution of database production incidents as part of on-call activities as needed.

Identify and analyze performance bottlenecks in databases, and implement necessary optimizations to resolve the performance bottlenecks.

Work on Infrastructure automation projects.

Implement disaster recovery strategies for production datastores.
-
Define maintenance windows, disaster recovery strategies and perform disaster recovery when needed.
-
Enable/Integrate monitoring, auditing, and alert systems for databases with existing monitoring infrastructure to enhance observability of database systems.

Participate in change, problem management and emergency response.
-
Responsible for system performance and reliability.

Self-Driven, flexible and willing to learn in adjacent areas with the initiative to learn more
What experience you need
-
Bachelors or Master Degree in computer science or relevant stream.
-
8+ years experience as a DB engineer managing databases or Big data solutions.
-
Good understanding in Indexing, upgrades, restore and replication etc.
-
Strong technical skills on Google Cloud databases such as Oracle, Postgres, Cloud SQL, Big table, BigQuery etc
-
Solid SQL experience, authoring complex queries
-
Experience working on relational and non-relational databases (NoSQL, etc).
-
Experience working on Big Data products/ solutions is a plus.
-
Google cloud, automation knowledge is a plus.
-
Demonstrated ability to solve problems quickly and completely.

Scripting/Programming (Unix shell, Python, etc) experience is highly desirable.
-
Knowledge of data processing libraries and frameworks is a plus.
-
Experience with Infrastructure automation with Terraform is a plus.

Experience designing and developing big data processing solutions using Dataflow/Apache Beam, Bigtable, BigQuery, PubSub, GCS, Composer/Airflow, and others

Experience with backend technologies such as JAVA/J2EE, SpringBoot, SOA and Microservices
