Caterpillar's Strategic Procurement & Planning Division Digital team is seeking a Senior Data Specialist to lead the vision, strategy, and execution of the Sales Data Platform (SDP) supporting sales, order, and work tool data across. This role bridges business and technology needs to deliver secure, high-quality data that enables analytics, planning, forecasting, and operational activities across the enterprise.
The selected candidate for this role has a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Sales Data Platform architecture for years to come, as they will play a key role in a cross-functional modernization effort aligned around best practices in data governance, modeling, quality.
What You Will Do
  • Define and own the vision, roadmap, and long-term direction of the Sales Data Platform (SDP)
  • Represent the voice of the customer for the SDP, translating business and stakeholder needs into requirements for IT business partners
  • Manage and prioritize feature delivery for the data platform using Agile practices like backlog refinement, sprint planning, etc.
  • Provide input into data modeling, normalization, and architectural modernization efforts
  • Ensure standards for data governance, quality, security, and regulatory compliance are met
  • Serve as the escalation point for data quality issues and coordinate resolution across business and IT teams
  • Engage and align stakeholders using strong communication and collaboration skills

What Skills You Will Have
  • Value Realization: Proven ability to prioritize work, resolve data quality issues, and deliver business value through strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration, with a meticulous approach to data cleanliness, validation, and data integrity.
  • Database Design: Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts and cloud-based solutions (e.g., Snowflake), including database design principles that support performance, scalability, and usability, and the ability to translate business requirements into effective data models.
  • ETL Process: Understanding of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes used to ingest, transform, and integrate data from multiple sources, with experience supporting reliable, accurate, and timely data delivery and resolving data flow issues.
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Strong ability to translate complex data concepts, products, or services into clear, easy-to-understand explanations for non-technical audiences, minimizing jargon while supporting effective decision-making.

Top Candidates Will Have
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Familiarity with Sales & Operations Planning and supply chain concepts
  • Experience with data governance, compliance, and enterprise data platforms (especially Snowflake)
  • Proficiency in SQL concepts such as joins, data extraction, and performance tuning
  • Ability to optimize Snowflake data platform workflows, cost, and ROI

  • Location: The location for this position is Mossville, IL and requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week.
  • Relocation: Domestic relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Travel: This position may require up to 5% travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
