We are looking for a Data Engineer (full-time) to join our Data Engineering team in Berlin.
As our newest Data Engineer in the Data Platform team, your mission at Babbel will be to change the face of language learning one automation at a time. Working alongside your teammates in a fast-paced environment, you'll collaborate across Data Engineering, Site Reliability, InfoSec, and more, with a strong focus on maintaining and evolving our data platform infrastructure and being part of building our next-generation AI platform.
You will:
- Shape, maintain, and continuously improve our data platform, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and secure
- Support the integration of AI capabilities into our platform, helping to lay the foundation for ML-driven products
- Secure our precious data and the infrastructure it relies upon, implementing best practices in data governance and compliance
- Optimize data storage, retrieval, and access patterns to ensure performance and cost-effectiveness
- Automate platform operations, infrastructure provisioning, and deployment workflows
- Develop and enhance monitoring, alerting, and observability of platform components (it might be boring, but… refer to the previous point)
- Participate in our knowledge sharing sessions (we're a learning company after all!)
You have:
- Confidence in working with AWS services and cloud architectures, especially for platform and infrastructure management
- Solid programming skills in Python and PySpark, with a drive to raise the bar for our codebase
- Confidence in working with Terraform and Github Actions for infrastructure as code and CI/CD automation
- Experience managing data lakehouses (like Databricks) and warehouses (like Snowflake), with an emphasis on platform reliability and scalability
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Nice to have:
- Experience scheduling complex data flows with Airflow and DBT
- A passion for evangelizing the DevOps mindset across your workplace
- Interest in AI/ML platforms or experience supporting ML-driven applications
Some perks of becoming a Babbelonian:
- Enjoy 30 vacation days and the chance to take a 3-month Sabbatical. Plus family and life situation counseling.
- Decide how, when and from where you want to work with our flexible working hours and remote friendly options as Jobbatical (up to 3 months inside the EU) or work from our fully equipped office with nap, faith and family rooms.
- Learn and grow with the internal learning opportunities, and use a yearly learning & development budget for external training. Learn languages with Babbel for free with your full access to Babbel.
- Take advantage of your mobility benefits options and a discounted Urban Sports Club membership.
- Be part of our employee communities (such as Femgineers, DE&I Ambassadors and LGBTQIA groups), attend cultural and regular social events.
