What are we looking for?

At Checkmarx, our DevOps Core team builds and operates the engineering platforms that power one of the world's leading Application Security (AppSec) platforms. We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer who is passionate about designing scalable data platforms while also owning the operational excellence of our PostgreSQL infrastructure.

This role combines modern data engineering, database administration, and cloud infrastructure, giving you end-to-end ownership of the data ecosystem supporting engineering, product, analytics, and operational workloads. You'll work closely with DevOps, Software Engineering, Security, and Data consumers to build reliable, secure, and highly available data platforms running on AWS.

How will you make an impact?

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data platforms.
  • Develop and optimize ETL/ELT processes for structured and semi-structured data.
  • Own AWS Aurora PostgreSQL databases from both operational and architectural perspectives.
  • Serve as the PostgreSQL DBA for production environments, ensuring performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.
  • Design database schemas, indexing strategies, partitioning, and query optimization.
  • Manage database upgrades, migrations, backups, disaster recovery, replication, and high availability.
  • Build automation for database lifecycle management using Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices.
  • Monitor database health and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve application performance through efficient data modeling and SQL optimization.
  • Implement security best practices including encryption, access control, auditing, and compliance.
  • Support large-scale production systems with a strong focus on observability, automation, and operational excellence.
  • Drive continuous improvements in the data platform architecture and engineering practices.
Requirements

What is needed to succeed?

Required qualifications:​

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Database Engineer, or Platform Engineer.
  • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL administration in production environments.
  • Hands-on experience managing Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and AWS RDS.
  • Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, replication, backups, and recovery.
  • Experience building production-grade data pipelines using Python and SQL.
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks such as Apache Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS data services and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized workloads.
  • Strong understanding of Linux systems and automation.
  • Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitOps methodologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a production-first mindset.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, or similar streaming technologies.
  • Experience operating large-scale SaaS platforms.
  • Experience with data lake or analytics architectures.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Redshift, ClickHouse, or similar analytical databases.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps and security best practices.
  • Experience supporting engineering metrics and operational analytics platforms.
