This role offers a unique opportunity to expand skills in Generative AI and foster innovation within Elsevier while reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Discovery and Enrichment Experts and supporting various product initiatives.
 

About the Role
 

As a Senior Data Discovery and Enrichment Expert within a team that manages and delivers support to many products, the person will contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the quality standards for various engineering products (e.g., Knovel) and databases of peer-reviewed, full-text scientific, technical and health literature (e.g., ScienceDirect). This entails understanding of product cores and corresponding services associated with these assets, such as automated NLP and ML solutions that support the products in searching, indexing, enriching and managing their content. You will also be actively supporting the initiatives of various Elsevier products to use GenAI to provide users with new insights for the scientific content. GenAI is an exciting new technology that can make the research process more efficient and accelerate innovation by understanding conversational questions, determining what researchers are looking for and why, and extracting, synthesizing and summarizing the relevant information from peer-reviewed full-text articles in a matter of seconds. This position offers a unique opportunity for a domain specialist to expand their expertise into the rapidly evolving field of Generative AI, driving innovation and enhancing the impact of AI solutions within their field.
 

Responsibilities
 

  • Supporting the team with various projects.
  • Understanding the GENAI technology and how these can be successfully implemented in the Elsevier products.
  • Evaluating the quality of AI-generated content or solutions, implementing validation protocols to maintain high standards.
  • Providing critical insights and domain-specific knowledge to ensure AI models are trained and fine-tuned with relevant data.
  • Working closely with interdisciplinary teams, including data scientists, AI engineers, and domain experts, to develop innovative AI solutions, become an expert in prompt engineering.
  • Assessing the impact of potential quality issues on the larger business objectives and end-user experience and define options to mitigate the immediate impact.
  • Updating documentation, develop QA strategies and metrics; design and implement efficient ways of improving QA processes, contribute to the product development, always aligned with the product and user needs.
  • Developing a deep understanding (subject matter expertise) of research for the engineering industry.


Requirements

  • At least a master’s degree in engineering.
  • Knowledge of scientific content enhancement and publishing processes, data mining, search engines, data excerption, scientific thesauri and controlled vocabularies.
  • In-depth knowledge of domain specific databases and extensive understanding of product workflows.
  • Familiar with the Generative AI technology, including how models are being trained and evaluated.
  • Knowledge and experience with industry standard best practices regarding content QA and in-depth experience in quality assurance. Experience working with engineering databases is a plus.
  • Capability to critically evaluate AI-generated content or outputs, ensuring their relevance, accuracy, and applicability within the domain context.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address domain-specific challenges using AI solutions, identifying opportunities for AI to improve processes or outcomes.
  • A strong focus on results and quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (fluent English).
  • Ability to maintain and build-out relationships in a matrix and multicultural organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work remotely, proactively and independently.
