About the Work:
Our legal team is a key driver of this transformation, working as a high-performing, collaborative force that partners closely with business and operational teams. Together, we navigate the dynamic challenges of a high-growth environment with innovation and leadership.
As a key member of our legal department, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring Honor meets and surpasses the regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions we operate. With a primary focus on HIPAA compliance, data privacy, and contract review, this role is perfect for an attorney with at least 4 years of relevant experience, looking to make a significant impact in an innovative and caring industry. Your work will involve direct collaboration with various departments, providing strategic legal guidance, and leading initiatives to strengthen our compliance and data privacy frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the company’s primary legal advisor on issues related to HIPAA compliance, data privacy, AI, and technology. Provide guidance to senior management on legal risks, regulatory changes, and strategic responses.
- Draft, review, and update policies related to data privacy, retention, and security. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CCPA, PIPEDA, GDPR and other relevant data protection regulations.
- Review and negotiate complex commercial agreements, emphasizing data protection and privacy to align with our commitment to legal compliance and risk management.
- Lead the legal response to any data breaches, including coordinating with relevant departments, managing disclosures, and overseeing any required investigations.
- Develop and deliver training programs to various departments to ensure company-wide awareness and compliance with data privacy laws and policies.
- Collaborate with IT, security, and compliance teams to implement comprehensive data protection and privacy strategies.
- Monitor and audit vendor and partner compliance with our data privacy standards, addressing any deficiencies or risks.
- Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders, including product, engineering, business development, marketing, and policy teams to ensure integrated compliance strategies.
- Implement and monitor litigation holds to protect relevant information in the event of legal proceedings.
- Ensure all company websites comply with all data privacy laws. Conduct reviews of website trackers to align with legal standards and best practices.
- Remain up-to-date on the latest developments in data protection laws, adjusting compliance strategies accordingly.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in at least one state bar.
- 4+ years of experience in a legal role with a focus on HIPAA compliance and data privacy.
- Strong understanding of CCPA, PIPEDA, and other relevant data protection laws and regulations.
- Experience with international data protection laws is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and draft complex contracts.
- Health care and/or franchise experience is a plus.

Our range reflects the hiring range for this position. We use national average to determine pay as we are a remote first company. Individual pay is based on a number of factors including qualifications, skills, experience, education, and training.
Base pay is just a part of our total rewards program. Honor offers equity and 401K with up to a 4% match. We provide medical, dental and vision coverage including zero cost plans for employees. Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability and Life Insurance are fully employer paid with a voluntary additional Life Insurance option. We offer a generous time off program, mental health benefits, wellness program, and discount program.
Hiring Salary Range
$162,900—$190,000 USD

Honor is remote friendly! We're hiring across the U.S., with an entirely virtual interview and onboarding process. Most of our positions are remote/work from home and do not require permanent relocation. As conditions allow, we have office space for in-person collaboration in our San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Austin, TX, and Omaha, NE hubs.
