GEICO is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Corporate Litigation and Investigations Division as a Senior Counsel, Commercial Claims. This role will serve as a senior legal advisor responsible for advising the claims organization on litigation risk arising from commercial claims and from commercial claims-handling processes. A successful candidate should have seven or more years’ experience advising claims organizations in insurance coverage and claims-related litigation arising from commercial insurance policies and ideally would have some familiarity with claims-related litigation risks across all fifty states.
Primary Responsibilities
Commercial Claims Advice & Strategy
- Provide legal advice to claims organization and business leaders on complex commercial insurance claims, including providing coverage advice, evaluating risk transfer demands and opportunities, and evaluating risk associated with potential extra-contractual exposure and alleged bad faith.
- Serve as a strategic partner to claims and other business units, providing practical legal guidance on claims handling, litigation exposure, and emerging risks.
Litigation Management
- Respond to and manage disputes and litigation arising out of federal and state filing requirements associated with motor carriers, including, but not limited to, the MCS-90 filing process.
- Manage litigation filed by or against GEICO-affiliated entities arising out of commercial claims.
- Advise internal stakeholders on litigation risks, strategy, and resolution options across a wide range of matters.
- Facilitate escalation of significant matters to senior leadership while maintaining ownership of case direction and results.
Thought Leadership & Risk Monitoring
- Monitor and analyze legal and regulatory developments affecting commercial auto insurance, the trucking and shipping industry, and claims arising out of the same.
- Conduct legal research and provide actionable insights to support business strategy and risk mitigation.
Basic Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 7+ years of relevant experience, including litigation or trial work in private practice and/or in-house experience at an insurance company that writes commercial auto policies.
- Significant experience handling or advising on commercial insurance coverage, bad faith, and extra-contractual litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex matters and competing priorities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal concepts for business audiences.

Annual Salary
$148,625.00 - $260,350.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
