Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Corporate Security Engineer who will support Block's foundational teams (People, Finance, Legal, IT). To be successful, we need someone who can quickly digest new concepts, business requirements, and associated risks and can collaborate with their partner teams and with the security team to identify what risks we should accept, which we should mitigate, how, and why. This means broad security knowledge, an ability to gain technical depth quickly when necessary, and the soft skills (collaboration, ability to communicate security risks to non-engineers) and leadership required to effectively collaborate across many teams at once.
The Corporate Security team at Block is responsible for enabling foundational teams such as Finance, Corporate Engineering, Counsel and People to execute on their initiatives without compromising security. We do this by operating Block's enterprise identity platforms, workforce security solutions, and providing architectural guidance to our partner teams to help them build secure services.
You Will
- Work directly with foundational teams to identify and manage risk across Block's corporate technology platforms
- Operate and evolve our workforce identity and security tooling
- Assist in the development of security policies, requirements, and guidelines to address corporate risk
- Provide architecture guidance to influence secure designs and roadmaps for effective risk management
- Build, develop and maintain new security solutions to protect Block
You Have
- Experience with security engineering across a broad range of security domain areas including identity and access management, network security, endpoint security and PKI
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, Bash, Powershell, Golang, Java etc)
- Experience deploying infrastructure as code using languages such as Terraform and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Experience mentoring or leading a team of engineers will be highly valued
Ideally You Have
- Experience working in a remote and distributed team environment
- Curiosity and interest in learning new technologies
- Previous experience with enterprise SaaS tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Workday, Salesforce etc
