Job Summary
The Senior Corporate Counsel is a pivotal member of the legal department, providing advanced legal support to the organization. This role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal documents, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Senior Corporate Counsel will conduct in-depth legal research, oversee and manage relationships with external counsel, and provide legal advice to the organization. Additionally, this role will play a key part in mitigating legal risks and supporting the organization's business objectives.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
- Collaborates with legal team and stakeholders to provide expert and strategic legal advice on a broad range of legal matters to management, key stakeholders, and executives.
- Oversees complex legal issues, including providing legal responses, evaluating costs, developing strategies, and overseeing the resolution of disputes.
- Drafts, reviews, and revises a variety of legal documents, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with applicable laws.
- Conducts internal and external investigations, as needed.
- Develops training material and educate employees on legal issues, company policies, and best practices.
- May represents the company in legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation.
- Conducts legal research and stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company.
- Retains and manages outside counsel, while overseeing strategies, reviewing invoices, and managing deadlines.
- Perform other duties to support the legal team, as needed.

- Solutions require analysis and investigation.
- Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience. May recommend/make decisions regarding new programs/initiatives that have significant impact to the business and carry consequences in unsuccessful endeavors.
Work Environment
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
- Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, licensed to practice in at least one U.S. State. 7+ years post JD experience in a law firm or in-house setting.
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex situations and develop appropriate strategies.
- Ability to work both independently with little oversight and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills. Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice and translate complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment managing and mentoring legal staff.
