Senior Control Panel Designer

Owns panel design and electrical schematic development for Battery Systems and related power electronics products, working with electrical, controls, and power electronics engineers to translate system designs into manufacturable documentation. Hands on in AutoCAD Electrical, generating and maintaining BOMs ready for procurement and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electrical panel layouts and control panel designs for Battery Systems, UPS, and EMS products
  • Create and revise electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Generate and maintain BOMs directly from schematics, ensuring accuracy between design and procurement data
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, and mechanical engineers to incorporate design changes and resolve interferences
  • Support drawing standardization, symbol libraries, and title block/template consistency across projects
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from engineering and manufacturing
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing on panel build questions and drawing clarifications
  • Maintain revision control and documentation standards across schematic packages

Core Qualifications

  • 7 plus years of control panel design experience, carrying complete drawing packages from concept through released production revision
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN P8, including symbol libraries, project templates, and device tagging schemes
  • PLC and I/O hardware design: I/O lists, module and rack selection, I/O allocation, 24VDC power budgeting, fusing and distribution, analog signal conditioning, shielding and grounding
  • Network interface drawings: Ethernet and Modbus TCP topology, fiber and copper runs, managed switch and port assignments, IP address schedules, panel to panel communications
  • Wiring detail: terminal block schedules, wire numbering conventions, cable and conduit schedules, interconnect and field wiring diagrams
  • Component database management: part numbering, manufacturer and vendor data, obsolescence tracking, revision history
  • Applied familiarity with NEC (NFPA 70) for panel, feeder, and overcurrent protection decisions, conductor sizing, and enclosure choices
  • Practical UL 508A knowledge: SCCR determination and documentation, listed and recognized component selection, spacing and clearance, wire bending space, field wiring terminal markings
  • Emergency stop and safety circuit design: dual channel monitored wiring, safety relay selection, NFPA 79 and ISO 13849 awareness, monitored contactors, reset logic
  • Familiarity with switchgear interfaces: breaker close and trip control circuits, CT and PT wiring, 125VDC control power, interposing relays, permissives, interlocks
  • New product development experience, ideally on smart AI UPS or similar power products, concept through prototype, verification, and production release with ECO and ECN discipline

Nice to Have

  • Experience with both AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN P8, or migrating a drawing standard between them
  • Background in Battery Systems, UPS, or power electronics products, including MV interfaces
  • Time in a UL 508A panel shop or on an NRTL field evaluation, including working through inspector findings
  • Familiarity with SEL protective relays, managed industrial switches, 125VDC control power gear
  • Working awareness of IEC 61439, IEC 60204-1, NFPA 79, ANSI/IEEE C37
  • Some exposure to PLC programming or commissioning
  • AAS or BS in electrical engineering or technology, or equivalent hands on panel design experience
