TIAG is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to architect and design SCADA systems for the AFHE modernization project at Pituffik Space Force Base, Greenland. You will design system architecture, develop serial polling schemes, configure redundant networks, and provide technical leadership for SCADA/PLC integration.
This position is remote with travel to North Charleston, SC and Pituffik SFB, Greenland, up to 50% of the time. A valid passport and active Secret security clearance is required for consideration.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design overall SCADA system architecture for the AFHE platform using Aveva/Wonderware
- Develop robust serial polling schemes for RS-485 networks connecting valve actuators, ATGs, and flow computers
- Implement redundant A and B network communications with automatic failover
- Implement peer-to-peer PLC communications for emergency shutdown (ESD) functionality
- Create software logic flow diagrams and polling driver designs
- Migrate field device polling from server-based to PLC-based architecture
- Configure industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus Serial, Ethernet/IP)
- Design Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) safety network architecture
- Implement tag naming conventions and database structures per AFHE specifications
- Configure redundant application engines, historians, and SQL databases within the AFHE application
- Connect devices via a fiber optic network topology and a 1000Base-TX backbone
- Integrate external subsystems, including tank gauging (Enraf 954), valve actuators (Limitorque/Rotork), and flow computers
- Provide technical mentorship to the control systems engineer
- Conduct design reviews and approve technical approaches
- Troubleshoot complex integration issues during PITCO and onsite testing
- BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in SCADA/industrial control systems
- 7+ years with Aveva System Platform (ArchestrA, InTouch, Historian)
- 5+ years architecting complex SCADA systems with redundancy
- Expert knowledge of industrial protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, RS-485)
- Strong PLC programming experience (Modicon M340/580 preferred)
- Experience designing SIL-rated safety systems
- Deep understanding of serial communications, bridging, and polling strategies
- Knowledge of fuel handling systems and bulk storage operations
- US Citizenship required
- Extensive travel to Pituffik SFB, Greenland
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
