Key Responsibilities:
- Implement narrative content—including dialogue systems, scripted sequences, quest logic, and environmental storytelling—directly in engine
- Translate narrative direction and written materials into fully playable content aligned with gameplay systems, pacing goals, and production constraints
- Apply strong core game design principles to ensure narrative features support mechanics, player motivation, and overall experience design
- Partner closely with the Design Director and Narrative Director to ensure narrative implementation supports the game’s core design pillars and story vision
- Collaborate broadly with designers, writers, engineers, level designers, artists, audio, and production to integrate narrative elements across all gameplay spaces
- Serve as the connective tissue between narrative intent and gameplay execution, ensuring dialogue flow, player choice logic, triggers, and world interactions function cohesively
- Own content implementation from initial setup through iteration, polish, debugging, and optimization
- Integrate audio assets, props, scripted events, and gameplay triggers to create immersive narrative moments
- Identify and resolve implementation challenges, edge cases, and narrative-design friction points that impact player experience
- Provide feedback and implementation guidance to other designers to maintain consistency, quality, and alignment with project vision
- Maintain clear documentation to support collaboration, clarity, and long-term maintainability
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional game development experience, including shipping at least two titles from concept through launch
- Strong understanding of core game design principles, including player motivation, feedback loops, progression systems, and gameplay pacing
- Demonstrated experience implementing interactive storytelling systems, such as branching dialogue, scenario logic, quests, or environmental narrative
- Ability to integrate narrative content within broader gameplay systems rather than treating it as standalone story delivery
- Extensive hands-on experience with one or more game engines and development languages, visual scripting experience necessary
- Experience providing constructive feedback and guidance to designers while maintaining alignment with overall creative direction
- Ability to self-direct, prioritize effectively, and deliver high-quality work without close supervision while adhering to production schedules
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in debugging gameplay logic and content implementation issues
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Deep understanding of how narrative systems support engagement within modern game design
