JOB DESCRIPTION
UL is seeking a Senior Consultant who will be involved with the safety and cybersecurity work product development for various vehicle features, including complex software-intensive systems such as systems for self-driving vehicles, industrial automation, battery and energy storage in both vehicle and stationary applications etc. The Consultant will lead the development, or review of work products for clients seeking compliance to standards in safety, SOTIF, cybersecurity and related fields, including ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC/EN 62061, ISO 61511, ISO 21448, UL 4600, ISO 13849, ISO 21434, ISO 24089, and other similar standards relevant to system, hardware and software engineering safety, and cybersecurity lifecycle.
This is a remote role that can be held anywhere in the US.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead analyses and define requirements based on Customer system, hardware, and software architectures
- Lead design analysis to support the development of safety case arguments for safety related products
- Supports integration of the safety/cybersecurity activities in the development project
- Guide clients on ISO 24089, including guidance with vehicle software update and securing vehicle infrastructure related to software updates
- Create or contribute as necessary to hazard and risk analyses, functional, technical, hardware, and software safety concept for various vehicle systems and components
- Contribute in the product development process, by creating the appropriate work products that meet the requirements of the relevant safety/cybersecurity standards.
- Lead client programs by interacting regularly with clients in technical program meetings and project reviews. Provide technical assistance to clients in reference to safety/cybersecurity and related technical fields. Projects may include regular travel to client sites and to other UL locations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical, Automotive, Robotics, Software or Mechatronics Engineering required. Master's degree preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience in the Automotive industry.
- At least 3 years of experience in Functional Safety OR Cybersecurity OR Autonomous Safety OR in the area of electronics and embedded systems development for vehicle technologies.
- A strong understanding of Functional Safety, SOTIF, Cybersecurity Standards and Automotive Engineering principles.
- Additional experience with security controls at the vehicle level, secure onboard communication, secure boot, network segmentation, and secure architecture practices.

The salary range for this position is $107-150K and is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position.
All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation. The target for this position is 10% of the base salary offered. Employees are eligible for health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental & financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country, for the relevant position level.
We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
