About

Zego Insurance Limited (ZIL) is a Gibraltar-based motor insurer, authorised and regulated by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. We provide underwriting capacity to our group MGA, Extracover Ltd, across personal and commercial motor lines in the UK. We’re growing our compliance function and looking for someone at the start of their career who wants to learn the craft of insurance compliance from the ground up.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Compliance & Regulatory, the Compliance Manager will be responsible for the hands-on delivery of compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting, and policy maintenance across ZIL’s operations. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who can operate independently, apply sound judgement across a broad regulatory landscape, and act as a trusted second pair of eyes on regulatory matters. You’ll work closely with the Head of Compliance on GFSC and FCA-facing activity, and will be expected to own workstreams end-to-end.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Compliance monitoring- Own and execute the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan, including thematic reviews, sample testing, and control effectiveness assessments across underwriting, claims, distribution, and outsourcing.
  • Regulatory reporting and submissions- Prepare and coordinate regulatory returns, notifications, and ad hoc submissions to the GFSC and, where relevant, support FCA-related reporting through the MGA oversight framework.
  • Policy and procedure maintenance- Draft, review, and update compliance policies and procedures to reflect regulatory change, business developments, and audit findings. Ensure version control and communication to the business.
  • Consumer Duty and conduct risk- Support the Head of Compliance in monitoring fair value assessments, product governance obligations (PROD 4), complaints trends, and outcomes testing. Maintain the Consumer Duty evidence framework.
  • MGA oversight- Contribute to the carrier’s oversight of the delegated underwriting authority, including reviewing MGA compliance reporting, attending outsourcing committees, and tracking DUA conditions and breaches.
  • Regulatory change management- Monitor regulatory developments across GFSC, FCA, and relevant Gibraltar/UK legislation. Assess impact, brief stakeholders, and ensure timely implementation.
  • Training and awareness- Develop and deliver compliance training materials for ZIL staff, including annual refreshers, regulatory updates, and targeted sessions on topics such as financial crime, data protection, and conduct risk.
  • Audit and assurance support- Act as the compliance point of contact for internal and external audits. Coordinate management responses, track remediation actions, and ensure timely closure.
  • Board and committee reporting- Prepare compliance MI and papers for the Board, Risk Committee, and Outsourcing Committee. Ensure reporting is clear, decision-useful, and proportionate.
  • Financial crime- Support the Head of Compliance on AML/CFT obligations, sanctions screening oversight, and financial crime risk assessments relevant to the motor insurance book.
What You’ll Need
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a compliance role within the insurance sector, ideally motor insurance or personal lines.
  • Solid working knowledge of the UK regulatory environment, including FCA Handbook (particularly SUP, SYSC, ICOBS, PROD) and Consumer Duty expectations.
  • Familiarity with Gibraltar’s regulatory framework and the GFSC’s supervisory approach, or demonstrable ability to get up to speed quickly.
  • Experience with delegated authority / MGA oversight models is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable drafting regulatory submissions, compliance reports, and Board-ready papers.
  • Pragmatic, structured thinker who can distinguish between proportionate compliance and box-ticking.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to translate regulatory requirements into plain language for the business.
  • Professional qualifications (e.g., ICA Diploma, CISI, CII) are desirable but not essential if matched by relevant experience.

Location: The primary location for this role is Gibraltar or nearby in Spain. Occasional travel to the London office will be required.

What We Do

Zego is a commercial motor insurance provider that powers opportunities for businesses, from entire fleets of vehicles to self-employed drivers and riders. It combines best-in-class technology with sophisticated data sources to offer insurance products that save businesses time and money. Since its inception, Zego has believed that the problem with traditional insurance is that it holds businesses back. It’s too expensive and time consuming, and it no longer suits businesses who use vehicles to earn money. Zego’s products represent a solution to this problem for businesses based across the UK, Europe and beyond.
