Your new role

As our new Chief Coastal Engineer, you will join a highly recognized marine team, with excellent collaboration with municipalities, contractors, port owners and renewable developers worldwide. You will be part of a diverse international department of over 40 coastal and port engineers and can freely choose your main office location between Copenhagen, Aarhus an Aalborg, and work on major coastal and marine projects across all stages from planning to detailed design together with our team of highly engaged and specialized engineers throughout Ramboll. As Chief Coastal Engineer you will take part in the management team and develop both strategy and staff competences in the field of coastal engineering.

We have a strong pipeline of national and international coastal and marine projects with a determined focus to make the marine world future -fit.
Currently we are leading several major coastal and marine projects in Europe and overseas, ensuring climate resilience, flood protection and the blue-green energy transition. Major marine projects as i.e. Copenhagen Flood Protection and Gdansk Terminal need thorough coastal engineering competences, where you can bring your full spectrum of experiences into play.

Our department works with a broad spectrum of coastal and marine projects, from feasibility studies, EIAs, Port planning, to design and supervision. Our team is well balanced between senior experts, project managers, specialists and newly graduates. You will receive a warm welcome of co-workers passionate about their field of expertise. Knowledge sharing and open-minded collaboration across all levels within the department and across the organisation is part of our DNA and enables us to deliver innovative yet efficient solutions on a high quality standard. Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Taking the lead for technical coastal engineering excellence
  • Delivering professional expertise to projects and to customers
  • Managing numerical modelling tasks for waves, water levels, currents, sediment transport, etc. using state of art software as MIKE
  • Managing met-ocean analysis of waves, currents and water levels to establish design conditions for both coastal and offshore projects.
  • Design tasks using state-of-the-art coastal engineering methods to address problems related to marine structures and climate change
  • Hydraulic design of water intake and outfalls structures.
  • Preparation of technical documents (reports, drawings, specifications)
  • Engaging and interacting with other team members in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Drive the development and innovation of our hydraulic modelling excellence
  • Take responsibility for technical project delivery as discipline lead/design manager
  • Manage coastal projects
  • Maintain the highest level of quality in our deliverables
  • Promote our capabilities in the market
  • Co-create closely with clients and stakeholders, focussing on value creation
  • Act as role model for our younger team members

About you

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar)
  • Preferably +10 years proven experience in the design of marine structures, such as quay, jetty, and berthing structures, pile decks, caissons, block walls, dolphins ect.
  • Knowledge about port equipment, mooring systems, and navigation
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant design codes and design methodology
  • Large experience with complex multidisciplinary marine projects, such as ports, flood defences, artificial island or immersed tunnels
  • Great communication skills - English at a professional level, Danish is highly appreciated any other language skills are a plus
  • You thrive in a dynamic work environment with many stakeholders
  • Sustainability is on top of your mindset and you actively want to investigate and apply green solution
