The Claims Analyst team works in close partnership with SCOR’s Operations, Claims and Technical Accounting Teams in line with SCOR’s claims handling philosophy.   

The Senior Claims Analyst will have assigned accounts/Lines of Business and is primarily responsible for independently reviewing, validating, adjusting (within authority) or routing (re)insurance claims to ensure they are handled accurately, fairly, and in line with policy terms, authority limits, and regulatory expectations in accordance to SCOR’s Claims Handling Philosophy

This client-focused position requires a strong level of proficiency in Marine, including Hull & Machinery and Cargo,  with previous claims handling experience required.  Individuals will be responsible for autonomously managing a caseload of low-to-midvalue &complexity claims, deliver excellent customer service to stakeholders and clients and be able to recognise claims issues which require escalation to Claims Experts or Management.   

In addition to this core function, the Senior Claims Analyst is a senior member of staff providing the first line of triage/support for the Claims Analyst Team, support Claims Experts in monitoring and performance of the claims portfolio under managing, provide system & process subject matter expertise (in due course to advance SCOR’s transformation journey and regularly communicate with internal or external stakeholders (e.g., claims experts, management, accounting, underwriters, brokers etc.)  

Responsibilities

Claims Assessment & DecisionMaking

  • Perform an FNOL (First Notice of Loss) review on incoming claims on assigned accounts/Lines of Business as part of a continual triage of the loss.

  • To assign the claim post-triage:

    • to refer higher-complexity losses to a more senior Claims Expert for assessment/adjustment;

    • to retain low-to-mid complexity loss for adjustment and ongoing management, or 

    • to delegate claims that are low complexity and straightforward in nature that are suitable for “processing” to the Technical Accounting (TA&A) team.

  • Review contracts/policies and backup documentation to confirm coverage under the policy. 

  • Assess and determine low-to-mid complexity, risk, and/or value claims in line with policy terms, procedures, and authority limits, applying sound technical judgement to reach fair, proportionate, and defensible outcomes.

  • Identify claims that are complex, unusual, or highrisk, recognizing and referring all claims which require further review by others within the claim department, continually triaging to refer when required. 

  • Handling,      closing and/or following up on all claims assigned, both manually and electronically.

  • Transacting on assigned claims within their authority including setting reserves and authorizing payments within authority.

  • Produce clear, accurate case notes explaining decisions and rationale ensuring  all claim files are complete, well-structured and audit-readyCollaborating and assisting in the account management of assigned accounts/lines of business, often with other internal department representatives

  • Act as an escalation point for more complex cases from other analysts or team leaders

  • Anticipating client needs and expectations and delivering superior customer service

  • Working effectively with others within the claim department, particularly with other claim experts and analysts, to ensure prompt turnaround and response to clients, brokers and outside vendors

  • Ability to effectively communicate claim issues with internal or external stakeholders including underwriters, brokers and clients and represent SCOR’s interests 

  • Provide technical advice and direction to developing Claims Analysts

    2. Quality & Governance

  • Demonstrate consistently strong Quality Assurance (QA) outcomes, acting as a quality benchmark within the function

  • Support quality assurance activity by reviewing themes, root causes, and improvement actions

  • Support oversight by QA Lead of claims management and performance of TA&A teams

  • Ensure claims files meet governance, documentation, and audit standards

  • Perform more sophisticated data analysis to evaluate portfolios.

  • Participating in Audit Committees as required (Treaty Only) 

  • Contribute to updates of guidance, procedures, and decision frameworks

     

    3. Performance & Delivery

  • Manage workload effectively to meet service level agreements (SLAs) without compromising quality

  • Balance productivity with technical accuracy and risk management

  • Support team delivery during peaks or more complex caseloads

    4. Continuous Improvement & Change

  • Identify opportunities to improve claims processes (including CA Team framework), controls, or guidance

  • Lead, Participate or Support change initiatives, system enhancements, and transformation activity

  • Share insights from more complex cases to improve overall claims capability

Qualifications

 Essential

  • At least 3 years of Claims management experience, with claims emanating from standard Marine lines of business; experience in other lines of business is a plus

  • Competency with claim handling systems and processes

  • Strong understanding of claims governance, controls, and quality standards

  • Exercises sound judgement in making decisions, especially in complex or ambiguous situations. 

  • Demonstrates the confidence to be inquisitive and ask questions when needed to gain clarity and improve decisions.

  • Ability to assess complex information, identify key insights while considering the broader context and effectively communicate holistic views.

  • Strong communication and stakeholdermanagement skills

 

Desirable 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.

  • Datadriven mindset with experience using MI to manage performance and risk

 

Behavioural Competencies 

  • Proven ability to act as part of a team yet dependable enough to operate independently when required 

  • Flexibility and adaptability required in order to manage volume. 

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and set priorities

 

Required Education 

 

  • University/College Degree preferred

Industry certification/designation a plus
