DigitalOcean is the Inference Cloud built for production AI.
The Role
Build and manage internal physical infrastructure capacity programs, from intake and forecasting through budgeting, procurement, hardware deployment, and reporting. Partner with infrastructure teams to plan bare-metal server capacity, track rack and power resources across data centers, and use observability data to identify bottlenecks. Create playbooks and dashboards, streamline infrastructure request processes, and coordinate stakeholders across Cloud Operations, procurement, and internal customers.

Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. Journey alongside a strong community of top talent who are relentless in their drive to build the simplest scalable cloud. If you have a growth mindset, naturally like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment of a true industry disruptor, you’ll find your place here.  We value winning together—while learning, having fun, and making a profound difference for the dreamers and builders in the world.

We are looking for a Senior Capacity Planner who is passionate about building the programs and playbooks that let internal teams get the physical infrastructure they need, reliably and predictably.

As a Capacity Planner at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. Reporting to the Capacity Planning Lead, you'll partner directly with internal teams who deploy bare metal servers, building the playbooks, processes, and tracking mechanisms that let Cloud Operations provision and maintain that infrastructure smoothly. You'll also own coordination of budget requests, procurement, and deployment for new hardware supporting these internal customers, becoming the go-to partner for planning their capacity augments — bridging the physical infrastructure layer with the software and systems running on top of it.

What You’ll Do:
  • Build and maintain a program for managing internal-use physical infrastructure, from intake through deployment
  • Partner with internal teams who deploy bare metal servers to understand their capacity tracking needs and forecast future requirements, including how their software architecture (containerized workloads, networking, service dependencies) drives those needs
  • Design and document playbooks that enable Cloud Operations to provision and maintain internal customers' infrastructure independently
  • Coordinate budget requests for new hardware on behalf of internal customers, ensuring alignment with procurement timelines
  • Own end-to-end procurement coordination for internal infrastructure, from request through delivery
  • Plan and execute server augments on behalf of internal customers based on their tracked capacity needs
  • Track rack, power, and hardware capacity for internally-used physical infrastructure across data centers
  • Use observability data (metrics, logs, dashboards) to validate capacity assumptions and catch emerging bottlenecks before they impact internal customers
  • Identify opportunities to standardize or streamline how internal teams request and receive infrastructure
  • Build reporting and dashboards to give internal customers and stakeholders visibility into capacity status and timelines
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between internal infrastructure customers and Cloud Operations for capacity-related needs
What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:
  • 5+ years of experience in capacity planning, infrastructure operations, or program/project management in a technical environment
  • Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills, including working with both technical and non-technical internal stakeholders
  • Experience working with bare metal or physical server infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of containerized workloads (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and how they consume underlying physical capacity
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals as they relate to infrastructure deployment
  • Experience using observability tools (metrics, logging, monitoring) to inform infrastructure decisions
  • Strong program-building skills — comfortable creating structure, documentation, and playbooks from scratch
  • Experience coordinating budget requests and procurement processes for hardware
  • Ability to translate internal customer needs — both infrastructure and software-driven — into actionable capacity plans
  • Comfort with SQL and data visualization tools (e.g. Looker, Grafana) for tracking and reporting
  • Working knowledge of data center rack and power capacity planning concepts
  • Bonus: experience as a consultant or technical project manager driving nebulous projects to completion
  • Bonus: experience with data center inventory tools such as dcTrack or Netbox
Compensation Range:
  • $106,000 - $132,000

What We Do

DigitalOcean is the Inference Cloud — a full-stack, production-ready cloud platform built to run AI applications with predictable performance, sustainable economics, and radically simpler operations at scale. We are built for teams turning AI into real products — not just training models. Our advantage is not fewer features, but fewer failure modes when operating AI at scale — combining minimal operational overhead, predictable cost efficiency, and a full-stack cloud that works as a system. Hyperscalers are broad by design. Neoclouds are infrastructure-first. DigitalOcean is inference-first — with a real cloud underneath. It combines inference-optimized compute, managed inference software, and integrated cloud capabilities that reduce operational burden for teams running real workloads. Inference is the foundation—not the boundary. Everything else builds on top of it.

Why Work With Us

At DO, we do career-defining work. We innovate with AI and build cutting-edge tech. Our rewards to match that intensity - to motivate you, recognize your impact, and give you what you need to thrive. If you have a growth mindset, like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment, you'll find your place here.
