Job Summary:
The Senior Buyer coordinates the procurement and supply chain distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies. Schedules, orders and coordinates the delivery of parts/materials, equipment and services used in product manufacturing according to production plans. Controls the inventory of assigned production parts/materials in accordance with management objectives. Establishes standard cost on assigned production parts/materials for approval by management. Assists in the selection of particular vendors/suppliers with whom to place orders and acts as a primary contact with vendors/suppliers. Resolves problems with assigned production parts/materials, equipment or supplier orders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Advises team members or management on the appropriate supplier to be used
- Analyzes the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date commodity is needed
- Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company
- Coordinates all activities related to the procurement of a commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery
- Coordinates appropriate methods needed to distribute commodities in a cost-effective manner.
- Implements purchase contracts that comply with company and government regulations.
- Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements
- Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records
- Negotiates the lowest possible cost for the commodity balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs
- Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested commodity
- Evaluates the performance of suppliers and manages supplier relationship.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Understands and meets quality standards. Supports new ideas and helps to implement them
Compensation for this position is from $55k - $60k depending on experience.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 8 years experience as a buyer in a manufacturing environment is required
- Strong negotiating skills
- Comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, and purchase order software
- Exceptional communication, customer service, and listening skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and time management skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
