Mama Money is a growth stage fintech startup working to help migrant workers in South Africa send money home. Since 2015 we have been providing reliable remittances, at a socially fair price, to those that need it most. 

Mama HQ is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We are 131 people strong (and counting) from 19 countries across Africa, Asia, the UK, and Europe. Our Senior BI Analyst will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Mama Money, by transforming raw data into actionable insights, they will empower our teams to make informed decisions that foster growth and efficiency. 

As our Senior BI Analyst you will:

• Extract and report data by developing and delivering regular data extracts with precision and accuracy. 
• Analyse and visualise data by Identifying trends, patterns, and insights within complex data sets to drive informed business decisions.
• Collaborate and support the cross-functional teams, including the Product Growth, Customer Growth, FInance, Operations and Fraud to support their data needs. 
• Provide expert guidance and support across all departments at Mama Money to support our growth. 
• Continuously seek opportunities to improve data extraction, reporting, and analysis processes by staying updated on industry trends and advancements in BI tools and technologies.
• Manage data projects from inception to completion. 

In your first 90 days at Mama Money you will:

• Hit the ground running while you’re onboarded to our data stack and get a rundown of our data lake as well as getting to know the data team.
• Understand the Mama Money landscape by getting familiar with our data infrastructure, CRM systems, software and tools. Further understand our customers and the Mama Money hopes and dreams.
• Add value to a diverse team solving data-related challenges around growth and financial inclusion for migrant workers
• Review our existing data extraction, reporting, and analysis processes to identify areas of improvement.
• Develop and deliver your first set of regular and ad hoc data extracts that lead to excellent business decision making.
• Create or refine dashboards and reports using BI tools, ensuring they are intuitive and meet the needs of various teams to support customer growth and retention. 
• Work alongside company quarterly targets to achieve growth and retention

About you:

• You bring experience working with analytics tools and languages (such as SQL, Python, MySQL, AWS Athena, dbt) and data visualisation tools (such as Tableau, Google Data Studio).
• You have an excellent understanding of SQL and can model complex source datasets into formats suitable for downstream analysis.
• You can anticipate and interrogate edge cases in underlying data, thereby reducing the risk of downstream analysis errors.
• You demonstrate excellent consultative and collaborative skills. You can translate business problems into actionable data questions, and communicate the results of analyses with stakeholders to influence decision making and action at all levels.
• You have the capability to independently determine data analysis priorities to balance ongoing projects with ad hoc requests.
• You are action-oriented, a simplifier, and a great communicator. You are always pushing toward alignment and delivery.
• You can identify causes of changes in key metrics and run tests to validate these changes.

It would be a bonus if:

• Experience building customer segmentation models, analysing acquisition cohorts, predicting customer churn and lifetime value.
• Knowledge of dimensional data modelling, schema design, and warehousing.
• You possess a robust understanding of customer, ecommerce, and product analytics (e.g., Adjust Platform Analytics, Firebase).
