Senior Backend Software Engineer - API (d/f/m)

Are you passionate about software architecture and development, and eager to work on innovative billing systems? As a Senior Backend Engineer at emnify, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing our billing management solution, with a strong emphasis on database modeling to support various flexible billing concepts applied to a massive device usage dataset. The position can be based in emnify’s office either in Berlin or Würzburg or remote in Germany. 

• Design, build, test, and manage components for billing management and invoice generation as part of our dedicated teams, ensuring high availability, robustness, and security. 
• Develop APIs and real-time data processing applications, emphasizing scalability and reliability, utilizing the Apache Kafka ecosystem for streaming technologies. 
• Architect and design components for deployment on AWS, employing containers, serverless functions (Lambda), and streaming technologies (Kafka Streams, Kafka Connect, and more), while considering the impact on SLAs. 
• Deploy and run these applications as a member of a service team, leveraging state-of-the-art CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins and Terraform, alongside monitoring solutions like Grafana and Prometheus, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. 
• Engage and create connections with other engineers and stakeholders, mentor other colleagues, and participate in improving the onboarding process and internal communities (e.g., guilds). 

• Domain Proficiency: Proficient in TypeScript or a similar programming language, with a strong understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous programming. 
• Technical Competency: Demonstrable experience in database modeling, with a track record of completing complex models for projects running in production. Hands-on experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and familiarity with CI/CD tools and monitoring solutions. 
• Adaptability: Proven ability to prioritize tasks, estimate and communicate work progress effectively, identify risks, and offer pragmatic solutions to minimize impact. Learn from failures and adapt to changes efficiently. 
• Problem-solving: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to write production-ready code, conduct thorough testing, and ensure code quality. Identify and reduce technical debt, participate in on-call rotations, and resolve incidents effectively. 
• Accountability: Deliver value daily by creating small, deliverable increments, support team self-organization, and drive process improvements. Ensure the fulfillment of SLAs and contribute to customer ticket resolution.
