We’re looking for a Senior Backend Java Developer to help build and evolve shared backend platforms at King. Our technology provides services and capabilities that internal teams rely on to develop games, tools and services.

Building platforms used across multiple teams brings interesting engineering challenges: handling high traffic, designing flexible APIs and evolving systems while keeping them reliable. You’ll work on Java backend services that solve common problems, making it easier for teams to build, integrate and deliver new capabilities.

As a senior backend developer, you’ll help design, build and operate shared backend platforms and services. You’ll work across established systems and new capabilities, balancing the needs of individual teams with solutions that are reusable and maintainable over time.

You’ll take ownership from the first technical discussion through implementation, rollout and production support. Along the way, you’ll work closely with fellow engineers, product partners and the teams integrating our services. Your experience will help shape technical decisions, simplify complex problems and improve how we build and operate our platforms.

• Develop and maintain Java backend services and shared platform capabilities used by teams across King.
• Design reliable APIs and reusable components that make integration straightforward for other developers.
• Improve the performance, scalability and resilience of systems operating under significant load.
• Work with internal teams to understand their needs and turn common requirements into practical platform solutions.
• Investigate production issues and improve monitoring, troubleshooting and operational reliability.
• Evolve existing architecture, manage compatibility and reduce technical debt through incremental improvements.
• Build security and quality into everyday engineering decisions.
• Collaborate through code reviews, technical discussions and knowledge sharing.
  

• Strong hands-on experience in backend software development, with a focus on core Java.
• Practical experience designing, implementing and debugging multithreaded and concurrent Java systems.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems under significant load.
• A good understanding of performance tuning and scalability.
• Experience designing APIs and evolving services used by other teams.
• A commitment to readable code, meaningful testing and maintainable software.
• A DevOps mindset, with ownership of services throughout their lifecycle.
• Clear communication and a collaborative approach to discussing solutions, sharing feedback and making technical decisions.
  

You’re curious about how systems work and comfortable investigating problems without an obvious answer. You can weigh trade-offs, explain your reasoning and help a team move forward. You care about making services reliable, easy to integrate with and straightforward for other developers to use.

• Experience developing shared platforms, frameworks or libraries used by multiple teams.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform or other cloud providers.
• Experience with data storage, caching or messaging systems at scale.
• Experience improving developer tooling, documentation or integration workflows.
