This role has a hybrid work schedule (2 days onsite) for candidates in Portsmouth, NH, Boston, MA, Plano, TX or Seattle, WA.
Job introduction:
The EDATA (Enterprise Data & Analytics Technology) organization is looking to hire 2 Senior AWS Cloud Engineers with a focus on enabling users with modern Data Platforms. Under limited supervision, these candidates can design, implement and support resilient, scalable and cost-effective infrastructure and software that powers mission-critical data platforms across Liberty. Candidates will collaborate with developers and stakeholders on challenges and opportunities as a technical expert including coding, testing, debugging, monitoring and compliance. They will deliver new features and significant enhancements to achieve desired business results and documents processes, deliverables and outcomes.
About the job:
  • Provides cloud infrastructure and software solutions, operational support and problem resolution for large, distributed systems.
  • Develops effective, defect free source code meeting business requirements and Liberty standards.
  • Troubleshoots infrastructure and software problems, takes appropriate corrective action and/or interacts with IT staff or vendors in performing complex testing, support and troubleshooting functions.
  • Interacts with Platform teams, Product Owner and other Stakeholders to understand and define user stories at a deep technical level.
  • Depicts highly complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences.
  • Participates in infrastructure, software and platform set-up, user training, hardware/software installation, maintenance, support and documentation of operating runbooks.
  • Plans work out appropriately, proactively escalate issues that may impact scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Participating in Agile Ceremonies (refinement, planning, demos, retros, etc.).
  • Mentor new developers and junior developers.
  • Identify and recommend appropriate continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Participates in remediation efforts during incident management events and/or provides consultative recommendations on viable resolutions.
  • Monitors system performance, capacity and cost and reports changes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of Cloud Engineering experience developing or architecting end-to-end cloud-hosted, responsive infrastructure and web applications using modern languages & frameworks.
  • Experience designing solutions using AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation, and IAM.
  • Experience with build/deploy automation & DevOps frameworks (CI/CD, Bamboo, GitHub Actions, pipeline-as-code, AWS CDK, Ansible, Kubernetes, Terraform).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to automate data workflows.
  • Experience working in a broad technical leadership capacity - directing, coaching and mentoring across teams/product lines.
  • Familiarity with AWS networking and security.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to cloud infrastructure.
  • A collaborative, adaptable working style, demonstrated initiative and the ability to prioritize your time and efforts.

Additional skills:
  • History of translating client requirements into technical designs.
  • Agile engineering capabilities and a design-thinking mindset.
  • Collaboration, adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to manage time and prioritize work with a globally distributed development team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - and a knack for explaining your decision-making process to non-engineers.
  • A thorough grasp of IT concepts, business operations, design and development tools, system architecture and technical standards, shared software concepts and layered solutions and designs.
  • An understanding of how modifications affect different parts of a system and an ability to explain your decision-making process to non-engineers.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
