POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Chief Internal Auditor, performs complex assurance and consulting engagements (including operational, performance, and compliance audits and special projects) of College departments, programs, units and/or businesses having contracts with the College. The work involves planning audit procedures; evaluating internal controls; collecting, evaluating, and interpreting relevant data and records; performing complex data analyses; conducting interviews; observing operations; assessing alternatives for improvement; and writing clear and convincing reports. The responsibilities are carried out both through collaborating in teams and performing individual assignments.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of auditing standards and procedures (i.e., Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards and/or AICPA Generally Accepted Audit Standards) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Able to effectively plan, organize, and execute all phases of audit work including, but not limited to, conducting interviews and analytical procedures, detailed testing of data, determining compliance, identifying, and assessing risks, and conducting data analysis.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive/ confidential situations and information.

  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity.

  • Ability to apply and demonstrate critical thinking skills.

  • Skilled in building relationships and working collaboratively with stakeholders and constituents exercising independent judgement and discretion and providing excellent customer service.

  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to effectively communicate observations and conclusions to senior leadership, audit committee, auditee and/or other audiences as applicable, including advocating recommendations to management for the areas examined.

  • Understands business risks and related internal control activities.

  • Able to handle multiple priorities, meet critical deadlines, and exhibit resilience and calmness under pressure.

  • Strong ability to take initiatives and make sound decisions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft comprehensive and complete engagement reports.

  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applying the appropriate audit methodology and audit procedures, perform complex financial, operational, and compliance audits to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of systems, processes, and internal controls; compliance with College policies and procedures; the validity and reliability of financial and other data and reports; and to identify opportunities for process improvements.

  • Prepare audit communications and report results to executives, audit committee, and/or other personnel as appropriate.

  • Adheres to college policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

  • Keep abreast of institution policies and procedures, current developments in operations, higher education regulations, industry trends, and auditing best practices.

  • Complete assigned and required professional development and continuing professional education.

  • Performs fieldwork activities and conducts client interviews and other client interactions independently or under limited supervision.

  • Prepares and reviews work paper documentation – in accordance with standards and department requirements – to ensure it supports conclusions and results based on appropriate analyses and evaluations

  • Works collaboratively with staff and management at all levels and maintains open communication with stakeholders and constituents within the Dallas College community to obtain relevant information.

  • Participates in various meetings and/or committees as needed.

  • May support the work of external auditors in completing the annual financial audits of the College.

  • Conducts periodic follow-up reviews to assess and report on progress or completion of management's corrective actions in response to internal audit observations and recommendations.

  • Manages all resources efficiently to ensure the engagement objectives are met.

  • Applies ethical principles and values to the activities being audited, maintaining objectivity in all situations.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Occasionally may be required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree with four (4) years of experience in related field.

  • Possess an audit related certification (CPA – Certified Public Accountant, CIA – Certified Internal Auditor, CRMA – Certification in Risk Management Assurance, CFE – Certified Fraud Examiner, or closely related certification) or obtain within twenty-four (24) months of hire.

  • Official certifications required.

  • Official transcripts required

  • Must have valid driver’s license to travel off site.

  • Bilingual preferred.
