As the state’s largest local news organization, Hearst Connecticut Media Group is reaching audiences with ambitious, compelling journalism wherever they are through CT Insider’s app and websites, in newsletters, on social media, through audio and in print.
We’re looking for innovative, collaborative Senior Audience Producers who will be responsible for embedding with key departments alongside editors to help guide our reporting, understanding of analytics, responsible and relevant AI usage and optimization of our journalism.
These journalists will each work with topic teams, which could include data, state politics, investigations, education, business, real estate, high school sports and UConn sports.
They will work closely with the rest of the audience team, editors and reporters to help drive audience engagement, subscriptions and return visits. This role represents our desire to innovate and invest in and support key areas of our newsroom.
Duties and responsibilities:
Works collaboratively with editors, reporters, photographers and other audience team members to ensure our journalism engages, retains and converts local readers into subscribers
Demonstrates a high comfort level with analyzing and interpreting metrics and explaining what they mean to inform coverage decisions over the short- and long-term
Uses topic-area knowledge to identify story ideas and help deliver recurring content series and annual special projects
Communicates effectively across departments during breaking and planned news events to alert users to key story developments across platforms
Qualifications:
Strong editorial judgment with experience in a deadline-driven news environment
Ability to optimize stories for site, social, newsletters and search
Experience editing short and mid-form video, photos and audio in tools like Canva, Photoshop or Premiere
Quick, organized, technical problem solver who is able to consistently meet deadlines
Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills
Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks
Ability to work a flexible schedule for breaking news and special content opportunities, including nights and weekends
Preferences
Knowledge of topic areas like data, politics, sports, education, business or real estate
Ability to lead planning for and run livestreams and podcasts that engage and retain viewers would be valuable (one of two roles)
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications or related field
